The St. Pete Times usually runs some kind of a poll on their main page of the website.
They were too chicken to run one on who won the debate. Afraid of the results, I'm sure.

Lawrence McBride is toast.... and the Rats in the rest of the country aren't faring much better.

I'm surprised McBride got 35%. That must be the hard core Dem's.

What a weak article. I watched the debate and even if I was undecided, I would have no idea what McBrides ACTUAL proposals are. He dodged and weaved all night. As I said on the live thread, Jeb debated an empty suit.

A friend of mine just came up from Florida and he said Jeb is going to win big time.

Same thing I have been saying since last August - no matter who the Dem nominee would be. Gov Bush's record and demeanor and style is #1 with the vast majority of FL voters.

Probably true about St. Pete.
BTW, Orlando, in Orange County, FL, went Gore in Nov 2000 and this was the first time in a long time that county went Dem. It is a huge swing area. The fact the readers of the Orlando Sentinel are giving Gov. Bush a big thumbs up bodes well for Gov Bush in this crucial part of the state.

BIG JEB BUMP FOR VICTORY!
To: summer
Thanks for posting this info. I can't believe McBride got anything over 10%, even from hard-core supporters. I saw last night's debate... there was no contest whatsoever. McBride was just awful and appeared to be waaaay out of his league. Jeb won the debate hands down! :-)

Orange County has a healthy Jewish population. From what I am hearing, they are starting to swing Republican more than ever this year over the Israel/Iraq situation.

AMEN! He is the essence of competence. Summer, I hate to address this question to you 'cause I know you've been very busy, but.......do you have any insight as to why the dems have invested so much political and monetary capital in a candidate of such inferior quality? They knew his deficiencies. There are dems that present themselves and the party line better. This is NOT a throw-away contest so a throw-away candidate isn't indicated. There is something here we're missing. I just can't put my finger on what it is.

Good news....thank you summer!
Our paper, Fort Myers News-Press, on the other hand...is running articles with enough DNC spin to leave skidmarks.
Any Florida Freepers with strong constitutions and a few minutes to spare - we sure could use you to educate the political reporters (very thick skulls here):
Bush, McBride spar on education issue Gubernatorial foes in first of 3 debates , Fort Myers News-Press / AP
Bush and McBride neck and neck in latest poll, the press is pushing another poll...brought to us by the "Gannett news organization".
The article also appears at the Gannett Fla. political webpage, floridacapitalnews.com/campaign, that connects with various Fla. news websites...both TV and print.
E-mail Ms. LaPolt
We need our own polls to counter...knowing that they're lying is not enough. We do know that just last week the press tried to fake poll results on us - no questions asked of DNC-McBride by WP or AP. They're more clever seven days later...with graphs and numbers, just like a Daschle Senate act.
The Prowler warned us about the fake poll....and stated that every reliable poll had Jeb double-digits ahead of McBride. Does anyone believe that one week later, after last night's performance, McBride is now tied with Jeb? Bunk.
Prowler Nails the DNC: AP Runs Fake McBride Poll.
Please take a moment to forward Jeb's positive endorsements, achievements and latest factual Jeb press releases to this Gannett group. They print the DNC-lies press releases, but seem to have misplaced every memo from Jeb or the RNC.
Please let me know whether you want on or off my "'til election day Fla. ping list". Thank you.

I have actually wondered about that too, and what I now believe is this: those Dem politicians know Gov Bush's record is a good one.
To run against him and that good record -- and have to lie through their teeth, nonstop-- might actually be a bit too much for them. So, they stepped aside, knowing Gov.Bush would win - and deserves to win.
