How long before this spreads to a city ordinance? Who will be first? Ann Arbor? Ferndale? Royal Oak? Lansing? East Lansing? Ypsi?
As for McMullen, this speaks of the arrogance of the public health fascists. I can't stand those people. They are the worst of the worst.

"I will enjoy not having to walk around a crowd of smokers on my way to class," said LCC student and nonsmoker "Yes, and some would enjoy not having to walk past a crowd of women wearing perfume, or around a group of guys staring at you, or around people who are sneezing, or past the neighbor's pesticide filled yards, etcetcetc. I Hate anti-smoking Nazis

OK, you can't smoke tobacco on campus. How about pot? What sort of college is this anyway?

Oh boy, the anal-retentive control freaks have taken over Lansing. The good news, is that the children of these nutwad busy-bodies are probably tokeing anything FLAMMABLE just to assert their independence from their hyper-hypocritical parents who seem determined to dictate how everybody else should live their lives. The bad news, is that these neo-puritanical folks are actually making cigarette smoking THE most appealing thing to adolescents in their town. Whaddya wanna bet that The Marlboro Man is now the coolest guy in this clueless community?

"We just want a healthier environment for our students and employees," LCC spokeswoman Ruth Borger said. "This isn't intended to punish someone." Yes! Right. You know what's good for everyone!

When I attended Albion College 25+ years ago, EVERYONE SMOKED, the drinking age in Michigan just reduced to 18...the laws changed in nearby AnnArbor that you got a $25 ticket if caught smoking a joint in public. And you know what....kids were pretty darn responsible...
This was around the heavy college riots about Vietnam...While Ohio State, Lansing et all protested the war...our little college protested not allowing boys in our rooms after 10:00 p.m. on weekdays....what a difference 25 years makes!!!!

"This has been a gradual, two-stepped boil the frog slowly approach," said Brian Jeffries, chairman of LCC's Board of Trustees. "It was clear through all the forums we had many people wanted this that didn't want this."There, I fixed his statement so that he says what he REALLY meant.

I don't smoke, but the zeal of the anti smoking jerks is one of my pet peeves.
A few years back, the company that I work for had an "TQ" team tackle the "problem" of outdoor second hand smoke. These morons er "empowered employees" came up with a policy, complete with a map of where smoking outdoors was acceptable. The map had all of the parking lots and the south bound lanes of the 405 freeway in the no smoking area.

As a smoker, formerly from MI, I have changed my official tune.
I now favor a complete ban on smoking, in the US, and world wide.
That would make me quit, and live longer, and draw more SS money. I'll die a lot slower, and bankrupt the local, state, and federal governments.
The worst thing in the world for our collective governments here in the US would be for smoking to go away.
Sometimes it is worth it to generate a crises. Government needs it. I'll help.

These idiots think its healthier to eat at a fast food joint and sit behind another automobile in traffic and inhale toxic fumes.
