Florida Democrats Unite Behind Jeb

MIAMI BEACH - In another sign of Gov. Jeb Bush's strong bi-partisan support, a who's who of past and present Democrat Party leaders today endorsed Bush and pledged to do "what it takes" to ensure his reelection.

Announced at a press conference in Miami Beach, the "Democrats for Jeb" Steering Committee is made up of dozens of state and local Democrat leaders, including a former Governor, a sitting State Senator, three former Speakers of the House, several incumbent mayors and city commissioners, a former executive director of the Florida Democratic Party and a variety of other community activists and leaders.

"I am proud to once again stand up and proclaim that I am a Democrat for Jeb Bush," stated Sen. Ron Silver. "Four years ago I took a chance by endorsing Jeb and four years later, that chance has paid off not only for me, but more importantly for all Floridians. I pledge to do whatever it takes to make sure he is reelected."

Gov. Bush has always enjoyed the support of Democrats from across the state. In fact, according to the latest Mason-Dixon survey, close to 20% of all Democrats would support Bush over corporate lawyer Bill McBride if the elections were held this week.

"I am a proud lifetime Democrat, representing one of the most Democratic regions of our state, but I am also 100 percent behind Jeb Bush," stated Ft. Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle. "Jeb has been a great governor for all Floridians, Republican, Democrat and Independent alike. He has tirelessly led the fight to improve Florida's public schools, and has shown steadfast leadership in the fight over education reform. Florida is on the right track. I am proud to be a Democrat and I am proud to support Jeb Bush."

"I am honored to have the support of such a distinguished group of Floridians," stated Gov. Bush. "I have always believed that what is right for Florida is much more important than what is right for politics. I am humbled by the trust these fine men and women have placed in me and I promise to them, and every other Floridian, that if I am honored with a second term, I will not let them down."

Democrats joining Bush at the event today were:

Mayor David Dermer of Miami Beach;
Mayor Dick Greco of Tampa;
Mayor Jim Naugle of Fort Lauderdale;
State Senator Ron Silver of North Miami;
Former Speakers of the House James Harold Thompson, T.K. Wetherell and Don Tucker;
Former Agriculture Commissioner and current Citrus Commissioner Bob Crawford;
Miami Beach Commissioners Matti Bower and Luis Garcia;
Florida Board of Education Member Julia Johnson;
Hollywood City Commissioner Keith Wasserstrom;
Homestead City Council Member Judy Waldman;
Mayor of Pembroke Park Annette Wexler;
Pembroke Park City Manager Dr. Bob Levy;
Manny Medina, CEO of Terremark; President and CEO of Peebles Atlantic Development Corporation ;
R. Donahue Peebles; Chairman and Managing Partner, Steel Hector & Davis LLP Joe Klock.

[As not all Steering Committee members were able to attend today's event, the complete list of members is below.]

"Some things are more important than simple party label," stated Former Speaker of the House James Harold Thompson. "Jeb Bush has been an outstanding Governor over the last four years. He has pushed our education system to get the best for our children. He has been a vigilant steward of our environment and a superb leader for Florida's economy. I am proud of our Governor, I am proud to support him and I hope all of my fellow Democrats across Florida will do the same."

Thank you for the question, d6, the answer, summer. I didn't know about Jeb's fight to ban partial birth abortion. He is Catholic, I think....unlike his Methodist older brother George (right, summer?). (^:

".....we should not stereotype all dems as stupid."

I converted to a small r for Rats last night. The Democrats of principle and character that support JEB! for governor are obviously not controlled by Clinton/Clinton/McAuliffe. Their sincere demonstration of loyalty to what is best for their state makes them of a different genre than the Clinton/Clinton/McAuliffe puppets.

"It sounds like all these smart dems and indys know a good governor when they see him."

It also sounds like this is a group with an inordinate amount of courage considering the C/C/M system they have bucked by expressing their support.

Are you ready for some footb....I mean typing? Has anyone volunteered to transcribe Governor Bush's comments? My daughter looked at me very seriously and said, "Do they know how slowly you type?" I said,"I'll do the best I can".

BREAKING LIVE DEBATE THREAD NEWS: I cannot transcribe the URGENT: Debate this evening. I've was invited to Pubbie Headquarters at the last minute on my voicemail and just found out.

May I suggest that someone who has posted before please post/start a BUSH MCBRIDE LIVE DEBATE THREAD TONIGHT right before 8:00 pm since I have to see what's going on down at headquarters. (at least now I'll find out what they liked from me) Maybe it's really a restraining order. LOL

I say it would probably be best to drop the transcription idea and JUST EVERYONE HAVE AT IT. I'll enjoy reading the thread later. Fregards, FV

Ragtime, please help windchime. She isn't sure how to start a post. And, if you could put the hyperlink to the Governor Bush Prayer thread and put a fabulous picture of Jeb and also a picture of McBride (halfway decent) on the LIVE DEBATE THREAD.

I got invited to Pubbie Headquarters and I'll have to read the live thread later. I THINK THE PRAYER THREAD LINK WOULD BE GREAT AT THE TOP OF THE THREAD...

Thanks, I will certainly tell someone at local headquarters what an enormous job FR has done for Republicans all over the country in addition to Governor Bush.

I am going to see about how we can get signs too while I'm at it. FV

Thanks for the heads up FV! I think you're right about everyone just posting when they have a comment (TAKING CARE NOT TO ASSIST the McLawyer/McAuliffe campaign). As far as I know, we were short a transcriber anyway.

They probably wouldn't call you in to issue a restraining order.:) Sounds like work or a debate party. Looking forward to your comments after the debate!

summer, you don't seem to want to recognize that those of us who favor smaller government like the weak governorship and split gubernatorial/cabinet responsibility Bush inherited. A powerful governor's office can do a lot of damage. Florida's system avoided an activist governor to great advantage. I already miss it.

The fact that Bush wanted a salary freeze on higher paid state employees wouldn't have any bearing on legislator's pay as they only receive a small salary, well under the levels Bush proposed freezing. I'd like to keep it that way.

Well, there better be some eats. I bought myself shrimp cocktails to eat while I was going to transcribe the debate with you. LOL I'll have those later this evening.

I'll freepmail you when I am back home. It's the other side of town too - never been there before.

You know I think that the Governor Bush prayer thread really works. I asked ragtime cowgirl to put the hyperlink on the debate thread. Was her idea anyway. Good luck, I'll have fun reading the debate thread when I come home. PRESSURE'S OFF all of us except to take notes and be vigilant. Fregards, FV

"You know I think that the Governor Bush prayer thread really works."

Prayer DOES work and it was an excellent idea to include the link to the PRAYER Thread on the live thread.

Since I don't have to stay home and on line tonight, I may check out the Debate Party here. There's a lot to be gained from being around people who have similar political views. Refreshing, like an icy cold Coke on a hot day. The 'Other Side' is always so loud, visible and ANGRY.

Shrimp cocktail, huh? Whether it's sooner or later, shrimp is always good! Be careful, have fun and talk to you later.

FV...Have a great time at the Debate Party....eager to read your comments after.

Prayer is so important...I truly believe that it was prayer that thwarted the Dem's attempted theft of election 2000.

I'll be here at 8PM tonight reading every comment on the debate since I can't view it where I am up north!
