Martha Toogood Is Sick Now
Various | Sep. 25, 2002 | Self

Posted on 09/25/2002 12:05:15 PM PDT by A Vast RightWing Conspirator

Since the Martha Toogood's story is being dissected into the most minute details, here's one aspect not yet discussed:

- Martha gets a spanking from her mommy (some call it a savage beating). Whatever that was, it turns out that not one doctor, not even the prosecutor could find any sign of abuse such as bruises, cuts, broken bones, missing limbs or rigor mortis. In fact there are nude pictures apparently showing Martha as intact as ever.

- The state takes Martha under its own loving wing and... MARTHA IS SICK NOW!!! In fact, Martha is so sick, not even her mother can be allowed to see her.

Can anyone explain what's going on here? Is Martha better off with the authorities in charge? Or is she a victim of the authorities loving care. Perhaps too much love got Martha sick?

To my mind continual child abuse is tantamount to murder, because in many cases, the victim is being robbed of the opportunity to pursue a healthy, meaningful adulthood. Instead they suffer and society does, too.

This is the lesson to be taken from the controversy. Many children are raised in an irrational environment, where the parents use verbal and physical intimidation on them, crippling their ability to adjust to the real world. These kids use all their resources to try to adjust to a crazy environment, when they should be engaged in the normal struggle of individuation and self-realization.

This is an enlightened post, and a breath of fresh air on this contentious thread.

"Since when was our legal system based upon broad generalities & "often-isms?"

You raise a good point, gubamyster.

My fear is that Martha, if she is indeed a victim of the kind of damaging abuse some supsect, would eventually end up back in the hands of her abuser(the mom), if she were returned to relatives or the dad.

Yet, I know nothing about the father, and generalizing about him is unreasonable, I agree.

"If the father had been the abuser, I doubt if CPS would have taken the child from the mother."

Yes, for the american male, a lot of discrimination exists within our justice system.

She may have used a stinging kind of swing, such as with the tips of the fingers. I thought a lot of it did not seem necessarily brutal, depending on what really landed. However, the shaking seemed quite vicious. I simply cannot judge from what I saw and it was often just part of the clip.

I had a thought. The mother disappeared for a week and then appeared with the child...or was it just a child? Could she have borrowed a cousin who was a look alike? They are a group of people who live by deception. I listened to her fake crying and fake confession. I never heard such comical evasions about the Irish Travellers. Her weird lawyer seemed to be having a laugh himself.

It is all very strange to me. I just don't think we really know the whole story.

The mother was suspected of trying to return stolen goods, and possibly of shoplifting as well. She is probably well known to store security personnel, and they were doing their jobs by tracking her on camera -- then when they saw her start beating the kid they zoomed the camera in.

You are on track. The starting point is they are scammers (thieves) and work your way from there.

They are well know for stealing from the elderly so I little pity for her, her hubby, their clan and their "people".

I believe thay are all citizens -- most are decended from Irish who came here during the potato famine in the 1800s, and according to poster Irish Queen, her Traveller forebears came here in the 1920s. Few, if any, are still immigrating, so it's safe to assume that all the people involved in this case are citizens due to having been born here.

Perhaps not her in particular but scammers/travelers in general. I hear her MO in this case was to shoplift from stores in one state and return for cash in another.

I read somewhere that she either was wanted for, or had been convicted of shoplifting at another Kohl's store (in Texas, I think). Some posters who are familiar with the security operations of major retail chains said that Kohl's likely shipped around photos and other info about these people.

I live among Amish and Mennonite communities and I've noticed a great deal of similarities in the way people talk about travelers and the way people here talk about the plain people.

Get real. The Amish live humble and honest lives. They work for a living. They are not scammers. I have been out to Lancaster PA and that's how it is.

Amish aren't driving late model double axel pick up trucks obtained via fraud

I think you'd be fairly safe around me and "my group." ;-)

What is your 'group'? I'd bet there are some in your 'group' that don't fill all of your 7 requirements.

were I to say what I truly felt about most of the comments in this forum - I would largely be ignored, ridiculed and castigated. All I can say is 'Grace.'

Good for Kohl's! Meanwhile Fox just reported that Mr. Toogood has been prosecuted for roofing scams and has a criminal record in 6 states. Texas, Montana and 4 others. Probably nabbed him for 5% of the scams he's pulled.

FOLLOW THE MONEY with these creeps!

She and Risa can share the honor. Gosh, it's good to hear from Freepers who view the situation from the perspective of the child.

I said i didn't know....just had not heard it explained...the explanations offered have reasonable sounding credibility to me....i was just curious...but something still just doesn't sit right with this incident....maybe i listen to art bell too much.....i don't know, but something just ain't right....not defending the mother or the state...but some things just can't be taken at face value...but then that is just my humble opinion...Jack

On the matter if this little girl is really little Martha...

I also wonder about this...the film from the store, is not absolutely clear, and it would be easy to substitute another little girl, preferably a cousin or such, who is around the same age, and looks similar to Martha...

Doesnt CPS have the responsibility of making sure that this little girl is who she is purported to be?..

I know that a simple DNA test could be done on the little girl, her mom and her dad, to verify that she is indeed their child...tho I suppose, many would look at it as a violation of their civil rights to require a DNA test...

But I for one, would like to be reassured that this little girl in CPS custody is indeed Martha..

And I for one also have no problem with surveillance cameras in stores, or even in parking lots...these women apparently did cause a fuss in the store, and who knows if they got abusive to the salespersonnel, when refused cash for their jeans... I dont blame the store at all, for keeping an eye on these women...hardly think, as some poster suggested, that they were being watched, because they were somewhat 'nice looking'...

We have surveillance cameras in stores, casinos in Vegas, and Reno have surveillance cameras in the gaming areas, some nursing homes and day care centers have surveillance cameras to check abuse by the staff, surveillance cameras are set up at many Bank Teller machines, surveillance cameras are set up in a lot places...they have been a great help, as has been mentioned earlier in this post, in catching thieves, car jackers, and other assorted criminals...

I know that the fear is, is that someone may be doing something perfectly innocent, and yet on camera, maybe(tho I dont know exactly how), they come off looking guilty of something...if anything, tho, this incident will probably spark more and more surveillance camera going up...

The reports I heard stated that her vehicles and every other aspect of her financial life were now open to investigation.  Are you going to tell me that every person that returns an item without a receipt gets this type of treatment?  Hell I tried to return a defective DVD without a receipt recently.  I'd misplaced it.  Does this mean I'm guilty of petty theft too?  Should I start looking over my shoulder?  LOL, you crack me up.

If you think an investigation into every aspect of a person's financial life should hinge on the statements of a retail clerk, you haven't dealt with some of the retail clerks I've run into.  And quite frankly I'd think you'd have a little better judgement there fella.

If you have two aliases, four driver's licenses, no permanent address, and two outstanding arrest warrants, yep, you ought to start looking over your shoulder.

The moral of this story is, if your scam doesn't work, don't take it out on your kids.

You don't get to know the Amish with a visit.
I lived in the near Lancaster, PA area for 35 years.
The Amish have a very secretive life.
They don't pay any income tax, they are filthy rich, own the richest farmland in the country. All owned tax free.
The abuse of their children has been talked about for years.
