HARTFORD, Conn. -- Erskine Bowles, a North Carolina candidate for the U.S. Senate, has been named in a lawsuit filed by Connecticut officials seeking to reclaim more than $120 million of lost state pension funds.
The lawsuit, originally filed in February, was amended Monday to add two more defendants, including Bowles. The lawsuit accuses New York investment firm Forstmann Little of making investments not permitted in its contract with the state.

Isn't he the "successful businessman" who moved his textile operation to Mexico and put a bunch of NC folks out of work?

Bowles' name was not listed on financial documents about the deal filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, but new evidence has surfaced linking him to Forstmann Little's investment practices. Inquiring minds want to know !

Hmmmm. Most interesting. I wonder if Bowles will plunge in the polls as did Simon with the coming of bad news. I wonder if the Press will follow this one.

Bowles was a board member at McLeodUSA from 1999 to 2001, at the same time he was a general partner at Forstmann Little.Clear conflict of interest, I think. Investing in and making money from both sides of the transaction.
My gut tells me the investment increased the value of the McLeodUSA shares he got for being a director.

All in due time, callisto.

It's worse than I thought. According to Yahoo Finance, Forstmann Little has multiple partnerships that invested in McLeodUSA, each of which has at least a 10% stake.

So while Irksome Bowels continues to claim that Liddy will reduce benefits to retirees on Social Security, it sounds like he has already worked to reduce benefits to retirees in Conneticut.

The demoncrats ran the south for a hundred years thanks to GOP carpetbaggers and gee golly wally if Mrs. Dole ain't yet another -- carpetbagger, that is. Hope she gets elected -- we need that Judiciary committee and every senator counts, but unless she really moves back there and out of the beltway her carpetbagging will act as a force for future demoncrat victories.
Now, me, I'm a northerner ... and I'd have been on the front lines with cannons full of grape shot to mow down those lads in grey -- so as to abolish slavery and preserve the union. But at the same time, I'd be mounrnfully sad for the loss of such stalwart young men and the gentlemanly honor of the South. And I despise carpetbaggers for all the callous misery they packed in their bags.
