The federal government's sluggish effort to improve domestic security since Sept. 11 is leaving the U.S. vulnerable to terror attacks, Sen. Chuck Schumer said yesterday. In a new "Security Report Card" released yesterday, Schumer (D-N.Y.) gave the government an overall C-minus for its anti-terror effort to protect the nation's rail systems, airports, water supply, and ports and borders.
"When it comes to domestic security, the federal government is playing Russian roulette with New York and the nation," Schumer said at a news conference in front of a Sept. 11 memorial inside Penn Station.
The report also graded 10 categories within homeland security, with a high of B-plus going to "Combating Bioterrorism." "Nuclear Plant Security" got a B-minus, "Aviation Security" a C-plus, "Northern Border Security" a C-minus, while "Rail Security" and "Defending the Water Supply" tied for the worst marks, with D-minuses.
Sounds like a pretty good argument for profiling. Shame the politically correct extremists (aka democrats) are tying the hands of law enforcement.
We elect these people to go to Washington and DO SOMETHING about national problems- unfortunately, voters seem not to want to elect anyone smarter than they are (on average), which gives us these idiots.
Senator upChuck is a miscreant. He and his party do play games with Bush's efforts to combat terrorism and execute the War on Terrorism. So it's with little more than amusement that I read his hollow comments. I think they're hollow because even though I agree with some of them, who's kidding who here? upChuck wouldn't have backed policies to correct these deficiencies if Bush had lofted them.
He gives the federal government an overall C minus for it's anti-terror efforts. Frankly I'd give it an F. Folks, a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. If our open borders allow even one unchecked individual to cross, then that one individual could as easily be a terrorist as not. And our government allows millions of them to cross unchecked. End of story. Terrorists can still enter at will. 99% of all trucking enters with cargos unchecked. 99% of all imports enter unchecked.

Well, I agree upChuck, but what did you or the other Democrats in the Senate do to fix that? Answer, nothing. Well I take that back, you blasted Bush in the public forum for political points forgetting that you held an office that would allow you to drive a fix with your fellow party members. Of course the media let it slide without calling you on it.

While our borders remain open to the flooding hords of invaders and nearly all commerce passes over unchecked, I cannot give our Bioterrorism efforts more than an F.
While our nuclear power plants go unprotected from a concentrated attack, I can't give our efforts to protect them more than an F.
As for aviation security, if you like having your wife and daughter having to submit to strip searches rather than enforce strict controls on immigration, I'm sure you'd give it a B+. Frankly it sickens me to see what is going on in our airports. Effective, perhaps. If terrorists wish to take our planes out, they'll find a way to do it.
His marks on the rail system and water supply are probably fairly accurate.
As for the Norther Border Security, I don't see it as a problem at present. Sure there are way too few border agents, and that should be remedied, but we don't have 10,000 illegals per night crossing that border do we. On the other hand Senator upChuck evidently doesn't know we have a southern border. He didn't even mention it on his grade-card. So much for an open honest and frank discussion of our security.
