[history]
Tess Williams of Elk Grove wept when she saw her sister holding a sign in the crowd of protesters standing outside Santa Cruz's City Hall last week.
"It just is so unlike her," Williams said. Her sister, a soccer mom, PTA secretary "and always the more quiet and elegant of us two," isn't the sign-waving type.

Ever known a chronic dope smoker that wasn't 'pale and emaciated', JG? Those dang munchies...

Absolutely right! I would love to have such a visit.

No, it's obviously weed. I feel the effects, I probably don't smoke enough of it, for various personal reasons. I don't want to get completely stoned. Even if I did, I don't see why you'd care. BTW, how am I self-deluding? I'd be interested to know. In Byron's world view, anyone who doesn't conform to his preconceptions is by definition deluded. Learning is such a chore, don't you know.

And if it were up to me, yes, alcohol would be illegal. 'Nuff said.

You know absolutely nothing. My ex-roomate from college smokes about 4 or 5 joints a day. He is an accomplished musician, produces and arranges music for films, teaches music, reads, writes, produces intricate woodwork for restorations (dangerous work), waxes philosophical on a range of political topics, neither receives or asks for anything from his government or neighbors and leads a normal life in every way. How about you?

"Where's the 'dignity', in spending your final days in a dope haze? "
There probably isn't any, but dying pain free and dying a death with escrutiating pain are not difficult to choose. Morphine, which is legal is much more powerful drug than pot. If pot works better, so be it.

Well, what do you have in mind? How does one live like a free man when the Feds have Everything "wired" for themselves? The federal Courts, IRS, FBI,NSA and other helper agencies intend to keep it that way.
The federal government, as a centeralized power, is a more terrifying potential (some would drop the "potential")tyrant than the King of England could have ever been. Its either "get over it and get used to it" (the South has had to do that since 1865) or "live like a man" whatever that means. We can all try to elect people who believe in personal freedom and see the value of true federalism, but I don't think there's much chance in the near future. Afterall, the US re-elected Klintoon, and NY elected his wife as senator.
Good luck to you in your one-man war with the Feds.

I will answer your red-herring question. I am against legalizing pot. Period. It is silly, stupid, and childish for anyone to suggest that legalizing pot will improve the life of those dying...it is silly for anyone to suggest otherwise...and it is dishonest as well, because (alhtough you don't care about the truth, as you say, "Why should I care"), the truth is that many of those leading the charge are dope smoking drains on society....and there are so many ADULT issues in this world to be concerned about, but the BRAVE LP is leading the CHARGE for legal dope.

I guess you're right. We shouldn't be concerned about the burdens on our courts, the corruption and militarization of our police, the theft of property, the errosion of our rights, the murder of innocents, the racial strife and injustice, the broken families . . . shall I go on? It's full speed ahead for the War on Drugs. How many wars do you think our government can wage?

I truly wish the FDA would put marijuana through the normal battery of tests, then legalize it (or not) based on those tests for medical use. Medical marijuana would be no different from any other prescription that has to be tightly controlled.

You think those substances are dangerous?
Check out this website on the dangers of DHMO!
Among the many commonly-sited DHMO-related environmental impacts are:
- DHMO contributes to global warming and the "Greenhouse Effect", and is one of the so-called "greenhouse gasses."
- DHMO is an "enabling component" of acid rain -- in the absence of sufficient quantities of DHMO, acid rain is not a problem.
- DHMO is a causative agent in most instances of soil erosion -- sufficiently high levels of DHMO exacerbate the negative effects of soil erosion.
- DHMO is present in nearly every creek, stream, pond, river, lake and reservoir in the U.S. and around the world.
- Measurable levels of DHMO have been verified in ice samples taken from both the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps.
- Recent massive DHMO exposures have lead to the loss of life and destruction of property in California, the Mid-West, the Philippines, and a number of islands in the Caribbean, to name just a few.

Oh, come on. As an old 'stoner,' I don't buy this story.

Well, what do you have in mind? For starters:
- I will ceaselessly condemn their unconstitutional acts.
- I will not say dismissive things like "get over it and get used to it" to others who condemn their unconstitutional acts.
I may not be able to lift the jackboot from my face---but I will not lick it nor urge others to lick it.

While I do realize the sarcasm in your post, cocaine is still being used as a localized painkiller by medical professionals.
Mind you I know this through my father, who works in a hospital as a pharmacist. They even caught one guy stealing the goods from the medicine cabinet...
To: Impeach the Boy
I will answer your red-herring question. They were not red herrings but logical followups to your statement. And you STILL have NOT answered them: So what if "we already have legal pain drugs for those who are dying"? Would you place an upper limit on the number of different drugs that should be legal for treating pain? Why?Would you place the same limit on drugs for treating, say, allergies?
It is silly, stupid, and childish for anyone to suggest that legalizing pot will improve the life of those dying
You have yet to provide any reason for us to accept your claim.
alhtough you don't care about the truth, as you say, "Why should I care"
I said that not about the truth but about the irrelevant motivations of medicinal-marijuana supporters. Your deceptive ways with my words would put Clinton to shame.

The "upper-limit" assertion is the red herring. We have legal pain killing drugs. Period.

We have legal pain killing drugs. So what? Why should we not have more?

"I still think the vast majority of the people who want the medical marijuana are the ingrown toenail crowd."
Unless you back it up with facts or logic, no-one cares what you 'think' (or emote)
OK, here are some facts for you:
On another thread, you said:
"my sister used to claim that smoking a "J" and going dancing was the best way to stop menstrual cramps."
Do you believe marijuana should be available legally as a treatment for menstrual cramps?
I have no problem with people who believe marijuana should be legal. I just that believe the medical marijuana crowd is hiding being seriously ill people to gain the legal right to sell the pot they grow or import to the highest bidder.
