California 2002: GULKE WINS ENDORSEMENT FOR GOVERNOR!

September 16, 2002

(Monrovia, CA) - Reform Party Candidate for Lieutenant Governor, Paul Hannosh, endorsed the American Independent Party (AIP) Gubernatorial Candidate Reinhold (Ron) Gulke on Monday the 16th of September, 2002, and urged his supporters to vote Gulke for Governor. The AIP is the California Affiliate of the Constitution Party, is the third-largest party in California with over 310,000 members, and is the largest state third-party in the nation.

"Ron Gulke is by far the best qualified candidate running for Governor," said Hannosh. "He will return California to its rightful owners, the citizens of California. Unfortunately the Republican Party is more interested in being politically correct than in standing for principle and is therefore doomed to fail, unless it changes course. Ron Gulke is opposed to globalist power grabs and is not for sale to special interests. He stands for Constitutional government, Christian values, and closing down our open border. I urge all of my supporters to poke 'em in the eye and vote for Ron Gulke for Governor."

Hannosh, a Los Angeles County teacher, joined the Reform Party not long after Patrick J. Buchanan left the Republican Party in 1999 to run for President as a Reformer. Buchanan's Vice-presidential running mate, Ezola Foster, also endorsed Gulke for Governor last spring at an AIP State Central Committee Meeting. Foster had praised Gulke's stand on moral and family value issues, including his support of the pro-life cause, and his stand for Second Amendment rights. Hannosh and Gulke share many similar stands on issues.

Whereas the Reform Party is not running a Gubernatorial candidate, the AIP showcases a full slate of statewide candidates.

I wonder who will be the first buffalo fart-breathed freeper who'll suddenly spout "he doesn't have a chance!" rather than deal with the policy specifics that this moral candidate stands for in the governor's race. Things that, well, when you think about it objectively, nearly ALL of us stand for.

Hah! Well, that ought to be a wrap for both.

OK, that oughta give Gulke a strong chance of getting elected governor. About as much chance as Pat Buchanan had of winning the state in 2000.

Um, you do know that Conservative Republican Bill Simon needs EVERY vote he can get, right? I am not into spoiling the campaign of a conservative. Now, if it were a RINO running, I would consider Gulke. But since Bill Simon has all the right positions, why promote the third party guy???? I don't get it.

Oh, don't mention that! "Principle" is at stake here, and Simon is not a "true conservative."

Meditate on this, and you will get it.

The groups involved in this stunt were threatening to bolt to a third party if Simon didn't win the primary when the smart money said Riordan was the best bet to beat Davis.

And then, JUST AS SIMON STARTS PICKING UP MOMENTUM, they come up with a BS reason to bolt to a third party.

That wasn't a coincidence. That was a deliberate effort to backstab the GOP candidate. The "religious conservative" movement has, in recent years, been very effective in clobbering GOP candidates for sins against their theology both real and imagined. They are, in fact if not intent, acting as agents of the Democratic Party.

Oh, I'm totally with you on this. This idiot could never win a local election, let alone a statewide race, and it only hurts Simon who DOES have an EXCELLENT chance of winning.

Simon is a conservative. He can win. He can raise money. We need to rally behind him, vote for him, volunteer for him.

The fact is, the Republicans are getting close to the point of declaring: "Either you are with us, or you are with the Democrats."

When that comes, conservatives will be in SERIOUS trouble. And all we will get is the occasional bone tossed here or there. Does anyone on this forum want to see that happen?

He doesn't have a chance and I could care less about his policies.

If only he were siphoning votes from Davis but that's right. We should let Davis win so it exposes the corruption of the dems.

No thank you, I'm voting for Simon period!

Or, of course, the Republicans in some cases could say "either you are with us, or you are with the Conservatives." We've been down that road before.

I never claimed the Republicans were perfect.

But the fact is that conservatives who run as a third-party candidate are spoilers, and you ultimately put a person in who does not reflect ANY of your views. And some people here KNOW that is the case.

I got news for you: The GOP is not going to come crawling to you if you kick them in the teeth by trying to lure well-meaning conservaitves to vote for Gulke. They're going to say, "F*** you" and find the votes elsewhere.

Many of us are getting sick and tired of seeing our efforts, donations, and votes WASTED by purists like you, AmericaninTokyo, and we are going to call it as we see it. And we're going to fight ANYONE who sabotages a good nominee in the name of "principle" and saddles us with a left-winger.

I'm not going to put up with people who would give me a Clinton clone because the Republican was not a "true conservative." I'm going to fight, and I intend to prevail against any and all comers, from the Left or the Right if it comes to that. DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY POSITION?

I'm going to point out what third-party types end up doing, which is to elect a Democrat who would stand against everything a lot of us here stand for. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

I'm going to make it clear: If you do not suppoert the personw ith the best chance of defeating the Democrat, you are helping the Democrat. IS THAT CLEAR?

Yup. However, the pattern is telling. The "usual suspects" are doing their level best to damage prospects for real progress on conservative issues, AGAIN.

I'm getting absolutely sick of it.

Very telling, Thank you.

Bears repeating, so I have.

Democrats boycott and trash 3rd party candidates who harm their nominee. Republicans quietly accept it. Think of the history Perot made, 19% and giving us Clinton. He was never treated like Nader, not even close. Maybe the tactics should be changed by Republicans? Except it's wrong to attack someone like that, anyone can run for office and on any absurd "party" they choose. Regardless of the damage done in the long run to their own core values and the leadership of all of us. SO hard to understand it but it's going to be with us in every election, obviously.

The problem is that we conservatives, as a whole, are True Believers. We want the New Jerusalem, and we are ready to believe that the next "outsider" will be the Messiah.
