Bush: If U.N. Won't Deal with Iraq, U.S. Will

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -
President Bush ( news - web sites) said on Thursday he will ask the U.S. Congress to endorse a possible attack against Iraq if needed and warned the United Nations ( news - web sites) Security Council to deal with Iraq or Washington will.
Bush told reporters that a proposed resolution he will send to Congress later on Thursday will seek congressional endorsement of the use of military force against Baghdad if needed.
"That will be part of the resolution, authorization of use of force. If you want to keep the peace, you've got to have the authorization to use force," Bush said.
With a rift among members of the U.N. Security Council slowing down action on a tough new resolution against Iraq, Bush laid down a clear marker.
"The United Nations Security Council must work with the United States and Britain and other concerned parties to send a clear message that we expect Saddam to disarm and if the United Nations Security Council won't deal with the problem, the United States and some of its friends will."
Saddam has failed. He will be going one way or another.
Bush has suckered the opposition on this one. They keep thinking he's a pushover because they mistake politeness for weakness.
The UN Security Council will continue to waffle and we'll go in either alone or with the Brits. Others will join in after the action begins - not wanting to be left out. What a sorry bunch the Euros are.
BINGO!!! They also confuse politeness for dumbness. It is still amazing to me that after watching GWB in office since January of 1995, they still don't get it. That, however, is to our advantage.
This whole scenario was planned out in advance. I think we made a deal with the Russians that they could oppose an attack on Iraq publicly while privately supporting it. Condoleeza Rice hinted at that a few months ago...if you listened to her very carefully. Saddam Hussein doesn't have a friend left in the world outside of his own inner circle in Iraq.
