On the Skinner & Ski show on WLS-AM this morning in Chicago they had a segment discussing the forced resignation of Chicago Tribune columnist Bob Greene for having had a 'long relationship' with a woman in her 'late teens'.
That's all I can post at this time.

Thank goodness he wasn't the President.

How can you listen to Skinner & Sky? They LOVE Clinton and government intervention into everything! Their hate speech against The Constitution is legendary. Their weekly program should have a disclaimer with a gag alert for anyone with a functioning brain.

I wasn't listening, I had left the radio tuned to 890 from Rush the other day and they were discussing it when I started the car. Needless to say I didn't have it on long.

I used to think the Bob Watch was very funny. I still do. I've crossed paths with Greene a couple of times, had a drink or two and chatted about the world for a few minutes.
I don't pretend to know him. Once I met him after a speech he'd given and we went out with a crowd, once when he came to a party to see the musicians performing with Mike Love (Greene sang with that band on weekends in its 'Jan and Dean' veil).
I've read his column over the years and have sarcastically referred to him on FR as 'The Sultan of Smarm'. I don't imagine he's having a good day, and while it seems selfish to pile on, I do have a few observations.
One is that the world of Greene's celebrity existed mostly in his mind. He liked nothing more than to name-drop.
And you're right about him pining for something, but I'd argue that he's pining for something that never was (a simpler time, lost innocence, etc). These were just convenient metaphors that allowed Greene's incessant worry about our slide into doom.
One column in particular sticks with me: in it Greene was positing that AIDS was going to kill us all, each one of us a horrifying death. And when I finished reading it I realized the only reason he wrote it was so that at some time down the road, when he perceived that AIDS would be a 'big deal' he could stand by the Xerox handing out copies of the column saying, "SEE! I TOLD YOU SO!"
Adios, Bob. Maybe your next book can be about Bill Clinton, or that democrat doofus from CNN with the hooker...

I'm really curious - when did this incident happen? Was it last year, 30 years ago, or somewhere in between?
To: speekinout
My best guess is that it was in the last few years... I heard or read that the young woman is in her late teens/early 20s now
That said, I don't think this was an individual event with this guy. Call it a hunch

I don't think this was an individual event with this guy. He's slime if this is true. But I have been wondering why we haven't heard more facts about the case.

Chicago worships celebrity more than eithe rcoast and Greene cultivated a personality that was 'aw shucks', when in fact he was a nasty and smarmy wanna be
The ranks are closed around him now, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Chicago Reader (a free alternative weekly) isn't working the story right now

Rush Limbaugh just mentioned Greene's firing, and asked if The Chicago Tribune wanted Clinton removed from office.
The Answer to the question is the Tribune's editorial board ran several editorials saying that Clinton should not be removed from office.

Thanks. I got your Freepmail. I don't think anyone should cover up for creeps. I do think we should be skeptical about accusations against people who are seemingly ok, but that makes it incumbent on those who know who the creeps are to tell the rest of us, doesn't it?
I know of both unfair accusations and fair ones. And I also know of creeps who were accused of doing something they didn't do, just because they were creeps who could have done it. And the accuser had something (usually money or job security) to gain.
I'm not near Chicago, so I didn't know Greene was a creep. Thanks for the message.
