And another upside for their 'governments' would be that afterwards, they could content their primitives by blaming the kafirs and "The Great Satan", the usual suspects, as always.

Yup,that's the way they have always played the game, and it's one of the ways they stay in power. I just don't see any real reason for us to play the game with them, when all it does is help them and hurt us. Like I said, let the Arab nations take out their own trash.

Our problem is what if they don't take care of Saddam and themselves?

Selfish self-interest is probably THE most motivating factor known to mankind, other than the fear of death. When you combine the two,it seems VERY unlikely they would let him get away with building and deploying nukes. If push came to shove and we had no choice,we could always take them out then.

A more incompetant set of bungling idiots would be hard to find, outside of Zimbabwe.

I have to agree with that, too.

I'm just tossing the debate ball around, because the last thing I want to see is Americans stuck as perminant peacekeepers in 7th century countries.

Me too,but no matter what we want,it looks like this is what IS going to happen. Not only will our troops be babysitters, but they will also be convenient targets for attack by the followers of the Muslim fundies, who will use them to distract their followers from their own shortcomings.

Do you treasure your own freedom less because our allies have helped us to achieve it?

I have personally fought for freedom for others, and stand prepared at any time for fight for my own.

The nations you mentioned helped us mostly with goods shipped to us. They didn't send troops in any number, and they were only helping us to hurt England. We don't owe them squat.

Your post number 52 says "disguised as a loyal Patriot",and since it was directed to me specifically,I assumed you meant to say I wasn't a loyal Patriot/American. If I misunderstood you,I apologize. If I didn't,you need to apologize.

Talk about cognitive dissonance. These are guys in their 30s and 40s that never got over Reconstruction - they still vote like their grand daddys.

I can top that. There are people around here who know I flat refused to vote for Giddy Dolt in the primary, and they were outraged about it. They couldn't vote for her theirselves in the primary because they are registered Dims! The excuse they give is "my granddaddy would spin in his grave if I were to ever register as a Republican." And THESE people are mad at ME for not voting for her!

"He actually said that we should be going after Iran before Iraq."

And we just might do that. You put the troops, ships, and planes in the same places doing the very same things to prepare for attacks on either Iran or Iraq, due to their geographical locations and global logistics.

Plus, Iran is building a nuclear reactor and testing long range missiles. In contrast, Iraq has Word War 2 era scud V-2 missiles that have less than a 400 mile range (and Iraq doesn't have a nuclear reactor).

Frankly, we should blast Iran off this planet before taking out Iraq, especially since all we really need in Iraq is one bullet from one sniper, and poof, we've got ourselves a regime change there. Hussein is secular, after all, so once he is gone there will be no followup support.

On the other hand in Iran, their religious regime would survive the assasination of any single leader, thus making it a much better candidate for a full scale invasion.

Selfish self-interest is probably THE most motivating factor known to mankind, other than the fear of death.

That's certainly true, but do you remember that Western reporters during the Gulf War said (only half joking) that the favorite song in Saudi Arabia was "Onward Christian Soldiers"? They would dearly love for us to clean up their mess, and then shut up so they could get back to their nonsense. I don't like our people getting sucked into that mess anymore than you do.

When you combine the two,it seems VERY unlikely they would let him get away with building and deploying nukes.

Saddam invaded Kuwait and was aiming for the Saudis and he's still around, 11 years later. You would think that with all the hatred Saddam generated during the occupation of Kuwait, they might gotten mad enough then.

If push came to shove and we had no choice,we could always take them out then.

The question is, how hard can Saddam shove? How much will WE lose if we let him run loose? He's been planning shell games with the U.N. inspector teams for years. If we could count on the 'neighborhood' to take he and his regime out it would be one thing, but they haven't and they know what he and his family are.

Oh goody! Do you know what a badge of honor it is to have you attempt a flame on someone? You are well known as one of the biggest dipwads around here and now I've finally attracked your dimwitted attention. Thank you, thank you.

BTW, you told JR you were going to leave once when he didn't back you up. Why did you return?

"Whatever happened to an honest discussion?"

Here...I found it!

"Unlike you, he's been there, done that, and bought a whole department store of T-shirts."
"Sugar, you don't appear capable of discussion."
"Your intelligence is only exceeded by your eloquence."

So let me understand...I am both ignorant yet eloquent?

Okay.

"And you don't even know how to post links."

I lacked the motivation to make your e-trek easier."

Well, maybe I didnt find honest discussion. ~grin~

"We can't educate those that don't want it."

If you'd only apply that mantra to FR.

One at a time, boys, one at a time. Graham comes from a long line of dairy farmers, and the sale of valuable south Florida farmland probably more than anything endowed him with the cash to join the millionaires club that the senate has come to be. But he would still, as a dairyman, enjoy the story said to refer to Mae West, and perhaps told by her. The gist is she goes to the state fair; the papparazis want a photo of her milking a cow. She agrees; but her long fingernails annoy the cow, which kicks her and knocks her unconscious. She wakes up lying on her back under the cow's udder. "One at a time, boys, one at a time," she says. And to the good Senator Graham, and to Iran and Iraq, one might say "one at a time, boys." Which one is first doesn't matter much. It is actually a fairly short list and they are all going to get it fairly soon, and we'll have a happy ending for now.

Get it?

A guy walks into a bar, orders a beer --asks the guy next to him "Wanna hear my 'aggie' joke ?"

The guy next to him replies, "Before you tell that joke you should know something. I'm 6' tall, 200 lbs. and I'm an aggie.
And the fellow sitting next to me is my daddy 6'2", 225 lbs. and also an aggie.
The dude at the end of the bar is my uncle 6'5", 250 lbs. and also a graduate of Texas A&M .
Are you sure you still want to tell that aggie joke ?"

The first guy responds, "H*ll no, not if I gotta explain it three times."

Listen sneaky it is it is obvious that you aren't up to speed on Middle Eastern affairs, but the reason we are going in is not that "might makes right," (if so we'd of gone in a long time ago). Maybe the President dosen't want some mushroom cloud engulfing your children. But if the safety of your own children dosen't alarm you, I can be thankfull that you aren't making decisions that would jeopardize my children. I find it interesting that you know so much more about IRAq's intentions with WMD than the nuclear scientest that was in charge of it before getting out of Iraq in 1994. Go have a drink with Scott Ritter and maybe he'll put you in the "Iraq is a Good Guy" movie.

By the way, do you still believe that the religious nutcases are incharge in Iraq. That sort of tips off your geo-political clumsiness.

I don't think it'll impact his re-election, after all, he's from Florida. They probably LOVED his comments.
