I am not personally familiar with negotiating prostitution, but it stuns me that Beckel actually paid $1,900 for so little. One interesting aspect of this case that I haven't seen discussed on the various threads:

Beckel made the decision to take this matter to the police, rather than either pay the blackmailers or not pay and take his chances that they wouldn't make good on their threats to reveal his activities.

In doing so, he knew that all the sordid details would become public.

Does Beckel deserve some credit for courage in doing so?
