WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. John McCain, saying he is satisfied with his accomplishments in behalf of the country, wonders openly in his new book whether it is time for him to retire to private life in Arizona.

But McCain, 66, also writes of his years of public service: "I'll hate like hell to leave it."

McCain Of 2 Minds On Retiring

This would explain why he has two faces.

McCain has been "of two minds" on every issue that he has seen.

10-4 on retire. I see nothing constructive this guy has done while in politics. He never could subdue his ego long enough to be anything but selfish IMO.

Fer shure, fer shure, good buddy. McLame is a wart on the whang of the party. Useful at times but in reality a monumental PITA. He has brought new meaning to the terms hateful and temper!

Buh-bye John

Funniest reply yet, maybe we will have a contest, winner does not have to read McCain's book.

McCain, of the Beltway born and bred to retire in Arizona? Don't make me laugh.

I wouldn't be surprised to see McNuts retire as a RINO and run as a RAT!

I received a solicitation in the mail from...

Citizens Against Government Waste

...this week; the letterhead was John McCain's. As I recall, he's been at the front of this organization for many years.

With a red pen, I circled McCain's name and wrote "NEVER!" next to it. Then, I stuffed the contents into the convenient, postage-paid reply envelope, and sent it on its way to CGAW.

Oh PLEASE! He sounds like Bill Clinton. The loss of this cow pie will not be a loss to the Republicans or conservatives.

Does this have something to do with the fact that the Arizona Republican party has stated they will run and back a strong candidate against McCain in the next primary? Most of McCains longtime money backers are pissed to high heaven with him also. Nahhh, couldn't be.

The GOP phoned me for money soon after 9-11. McCain was acting grown up for a few moments after 9-11. I said I was glad that McCain had found Jesus. The phoner expressed similar feelings. I'm sure he has been a major source of pain for them. McCain is disgusting. He is a bit better than Clinton because he actually served in Viet Nam. However, I think the sons of admirals think they have another set of rules. Isn't Senator Leahy the son of a famous admiral?

"Has my time passed?" McCain asks rhetorically in the final two pages of the book, to be released by Random House on Sept. 24. "Is it time to withdraw from public duty, retire to my home on Oak Creek, and pursue my private interests? . . . "

YES, and YES!

There, I made it easy for him.

McCain says that when he decided the run for president, The Republic was intent "on proving that I was intemperate, ungrateful, imperious, selfish, occasionally corrupt, indifferent to the people who had elected me. . . . "

Wow. The Republic actually reported something accurately?!?!?

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day...

I'd agree that the Repulsive was right about this. Of course, they're the ones that got that phone call the reporter told us about at the Desert FReep.

As to the title of this thread, I ask the obvious: "Only two?"

I could not agree with you more. McCain will probably run as an independent in 2004. I remember back a few months ago, right after the president signed the CFR bill in the wee hours of the morning, there was a party in a private home in Washington given for McCain about this new book, that I also read at the time would be made into a movie, scheduled to come out to coincide with the elections. Also, remember that McCain will host Saturday Night Live very soon, in October, just before the 2002 elections.

I do not believe that McCain has any desire to retire, unless his medical condition is worse than what has been reported.

I was glad to see him yesterday sitting with Trent Lott, in praising Bush on his UN speech, although I thought his remarks were tepid he did compliment the President. I did expect him to appear on all of the talk shows last night praising Bush (HA, HA), but of course I did not hold my breath.

I just received an E-mail from a friend and thought someone at FR may have an answer. I have to go off line but if you have an answer you can send it to my FR post box. Below is the E-mail.

Do you know of any naval incident, which occurred on the 1st of November 1952 in the Florida Keys area.

The reason I ask is that 2 British Sailors (Midshipman Paul Lisle Rosinus Dewar) and (Sub Lt. Donald Henry Smith) died on that day and were buried in the US Military Cemetery in 'Key West'

I've had a couple of queries wondering why they are there; and not in a British Cemetery. If you could point me in the right direction I'd be most grateful.

Kind regards.
