I realize that the attack on the Trade Towers and the Pentagon and the crashed flight in Pennsylvania overshadow any minor events of 9/11. I haven't had a chance to watch all the news coverage today, but so far all the coverage I've seen since the actual event took place has always left out one particular detail. And it's starting to make me wonder if I've been imagining it. So I'd appreciate it if anyone who watched the news coverage as the terrorist attacks were taking place last year can help me out. I started watching the news at about 6:30 PST, so I started watching just minutes after the first attack and just before the second plane hit. At that time I remember the news cutting between the burning tower in New York and to the streets of Washington DC, where several mysterious fires were set on the Capital Mall. But in all the 9-11 timelines I have never heard anything again about these mysterious fires. It was something that just added to the sense of chaos and confusion. Where they started by Muslim extremists? Was it just so insignificant compared to the massive destruction that was happening in New York that these details just got filtered out? Or was there some explanation given for these fires that I missed? Does anyone else remember this?
But I do indeed remember the fires, and that they were never explained.
Anyway, I noted a few of them mentioned something about fires on the Mall but then again, it was obvious rumors were flying- remember, it was originally reported that a small commuter plane had hit the WTC. The fires on the Mall thing was probably nothing but a mixed up communication.
