Governor Bush extends voting hours to 9 PM Tuesday, September 10
Voters in some precincts had to wait for the new machines to warm up. Florida Governor Jeb Bush has ordered that all polls remain open until 9 PM.
The decision came in response to a report that several polling places along the East Coast of the state were late in opening Tuesday morning.
Secretary of State Jim Smith made the announcement from his office in Tallahassee at 2:30 PM.
One polling place in a predominantly black neighborhood in Miami didnt open up until 11:45 AM.; nearly five hours late.
Dade County election officials estimate about 500 people left the precinct without voting.
Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Janet Reno also reported having a hard time voting Tuesday morning because of delays caused by the new touchscreen system.

This will allow stupid Democrats to go in late to cast their votes for Janet Reno, thereby assuring Jeb's reelection in November.

Can someone explain to me why they don't have new election officials in these counties? Would say there is going to be a problem in November as well so when the Dem loses he can claim the election was stolen by those mean old Republicans!

I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't gone to the site and verified it -- this is one for the book on "How Not to Run an Election!"
At least it is Dems complaining this time about their own election boards. Sure glad there is no Republican primary for Governor.

All I can say is that if this was 2004, I'd be losing my mind. Today I am just speechless.

Unlike the St. Louis debacle last year, the Florida polls are
all open late. I wonder what the problem was with the touch screens was - not delivered on time? not properly set-up?
I used one this a.m. in the Maryland primary and it was great. (The hard part was figuring out where the slot was for inserting the key card that enabled my ballot.) Like any good data entry software it offered me an opportunity to check over my ballot. And, of course it prevents dreaded overvotes. I just hope that there are mechanisms to prevent ballot stuffing.
