Uziel Gal, the inventor of the Uzi used in countless wars, commando missions and action films, has died of cancer at the age of 78. Gal's family said the Israeli gunsmith died September 7, 2002 in the U.S., where he had lived in relative obscurity after inventing the Uzi to help defend the fledgling Jewish state against its Arab neighbors.
