LIBERTARIAN CANDIDATE SPITS IN FACE OF TALK SHOW HOST ON THE AIR
DFU listening to KABC in Los Angeles | 9-8-02 | Doug from Upland

Posted on 09/08/2002 9:22:43 PM PDT by doug from upland

The evening started innocently enough for Brian Whitman, Sunday evening talk show host on KABC in Los Angeles.

He had on his show four minor candidates running for governor of California. Three were on the phone and the fourth, Libertarian candidate Gary Copeland, was in studio.

The conversation eventually turned to illegal immigration. Copeland did not like Whitman's position and called him a racist. Although Whitman kept trying to answer, Copeland kept talking over him and would not let him speak.

Just as Whitman puts callers in "timeout" on his show when they won't let him have his say, he told the engineer to cut off Copeland's microphone. Copeland became incensed and started packing his things to leave the studio.

Then, in great FReeper tradition, Whitman told Copeland not to let the door hit his ass on the way out. He also called Copeland a lunatic.

Then the rain came. Copeland walked over to Whitman and spit in his face. Whitman couldn't believe it. Two others on the KABC staff couldn't believe it.

Whitman had the station call the police and is considering filing assault charges.

Poor Copeland. He may no longer be the Libertarian candidate for governor. An official high ranking representative of the party called in to Whitman and told him that Copeland would be receiving no more backing and they were going to see what they could do to take him off the ballot.

Now that was classic talk radio. The unbelievable happened. A candidate for governor actually showed himself to be a bigger jackass than Gray Davis. Davis has spit on the law but never on Whitman, at least not yet. Brian, get him in studio.

You must be very proud of him as a typical Republican.

If you think I'm proud of any Republicans these days, you're crazy...

And all the libertarians who post here wonder why they're not taken seriously. They can't even field a candidate who can behave rationally enough to be interviewed.

I assume you are talking about california, where no party can field a good candidate anymore. Certainly other states have some good ones like U.S. Congressman Ron Paul.

Not all libertarians are for open immigration and abortion, the party is actually split on those issues. Many more libertarians are against spitting than are for open immigration.

Are you saying people in favor of drug prohibition will start their jihad against drugs on your hypothetical situation?

Will they? Who knows? Could they? Of course. For the sake of argument, let's assume they will. Or, let's assume some rival drug dealers on the US side are trying to keep the cheaper Mexico-transited cocaine and marijuana out of the market, or that they're extorting mony from the Mexican couriers as they cross the border. Any crimes there? Federal or state? Who investigates and prosecutes?

He just hates blacks, jews, mexicans and anyone else who isn't like him

According to the liberal media, this charge also applies to George Bush. All Republicans are painted with the David Duke tar brush. That's politics.

You can call me racist all you want, and I'll call you "nutjob." Sounds fair to me.

first part, they'd be prosecuted under state law for possibly felony theft (if they took & destroyed the drugs) and most likely assault. Most likely that wouldn't happen, as most people who'd be that angry would just move out of California. Second part, I dont think there would be 'dealers', at least not with marijuana. It would probably be setup and run like a combination of ABC store/tobacco laws. Most of it sounds like state laws to me and of course it depends on how it was legalized/decriminalized and setup (the state gov't may have a 'monopoly' on all 'coffe-shops')

And if the Mexican government believed Texas authorities (and their agents, the US military) were being too rough and high-handed in their prosecution of Texas state drug laws at the border, where would they go to complain? Washington DC or Austin, Texas?

Would you allow the Texas governor to enter into an agreement with the Mexican government to control some of the excesses and smooth things over?

Suppose the Texas government tells Mexico to take a flying leap and starts shooting suspected Mexican drug couriers on sight, just as they appraoch to cross the border? If Mexico retaliates militarily to protect its citizens, what then? A federal fight or a state fight?

That is why I made the inane comparison of David Duke with all Republicans. But they didn't get it. And most don't care, your buddies CJ, Kevvie Boy, Roscoe and the rest of the taliban are already off this thread merrily looking for other threads to pollute with their hatred and lies.

Sure we got it, but since Libertarians have been calling us "fascists" on these threads do you think any of us are surprised or embarassed to be compared to David Duke?

So "spitter," take your lumps like a man.

Well I dont think Texas can formally enter into a treaty Constitutionally but they can play nice if they want. And it would be a federal fight for the latter.

Tough luck for this guy's girlfriend, I guess.

Copeland is married, with children: Gary Copeland

The California LP is recommending that its supporters write-in Art Olivier for Governor. Olivier was Harry Browne's 2000 running mate.

Are you backtracking on your earlier assertion that the Mexcian government should take its grievances to Austin?

Yeah, Lao-tzu was a Libertarian. In Chinese, the character for Libertarian is also the character for a monkey's bottom....

LOL!

Well, you're correct that there are few candidates in California who deserve election.

So what would we have--the feds fighting a war on behalf of Texas against Mexico on the Texas-Mexico border, but protecting Mexican drug businessmen shipping their wares across the California-Mexico border?

No, they can take grievances there but they cannot make an official treaty ala the Constitution. Only the Senate can ratify treaties.
