Hafer crossing party lines to back Rendell for governor
Tuesday, September 03, 2002
By James O'Toole, Post-Gazette Politics Editor
State Treasurer Barbara Hafer, a Republican, will cross party lines to endorse Democrat Ed Rendell in his race for governor against GOP Attorney General Mike Fisher.
The surprise development will be showcased in Fisher's political back yard in a press conference tomorrow morning on the steps of the City-County Building in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Hafer and Rendell will then set out on a cross-state tour with stops in Harrisburg and Philadelphia later in the day. Hafer is to continue to campaign actively for Rendell.
One group that will be a particular target for Hafer would be Republicans who, like the treasurer, favor abortion rights. Hafer, a former Allegheny County commissioner, will also be a wedge to pry voters from Fisher in his geographic base. Before being elected attorney general, Fisher represented a state senate district based in the county's South Hills.
Neither campaign had any immediate comment on the decision by Hafer, who, until early this year, had been a candidate for the Republican nomination for governor. In the face of widespread support for Fisher among the state GOP establishment, she withdrew her candidacy, allowing Fisher to win the nomination unopposed.
More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

THIS IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a .... rhymes with witch!!!!!
What a pro-abort .....!
I still recall the day in 1990 when she was running for gov and came to pitt to campaign with the femi-nazis for pro-abortion rights. I walked right up to her as she got out of her car and told her that she is going to lose the gov race because she is pro-abortion.

I'd feel sadder about this if Fisher had any chance of beating Rendell.

Hafer is both rhino and RINO, and she is drunk on the bloody effluent of the abortion industry.
This should be surprising to no one.

fisher still has a chance of beating rendell - even with this turncoat wench supporting "america's mayor."
The impact of this is that it will make it harder for fisher to get pro-abort Republican woman votes in the philly burbs - where it was an up-hill battle anyway.
BUT - this should get the pro-lifers out LIKE NOTHING HAS BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And hafer is a lib anyway, who does not have that much support here in Allegheny County anymore. It does not matter if she lives to be 1,000 - you can write her political obit now. What next - run against Roddey next year in primary for Allegheny County Executive?
Oh, and F her.

Since Rendell has long been known to have a zipper problem can we assume that this gal likes to don knee pads?

Yes, but the suburban Philly RINO's just love Rendell, and that's why he will win big. The suburban RINO's (where, admittedly I am from) are the reason that Clinton and Gore won the state in the 92, 96 and 00 elections.

Rendell is anti-business pro-tax among other things... but Fisher needs a personality transplant. Fisher embarassed himself by first pushing the Hershey trust to diversify its holdings in the company pursuant to fiduciary duties, and then pulling a 180 once the media got a hold of it. Now he is out there saying the sale of Hershey will destroy Central Pa... He's a waffel... but, better him then Rendell.

Rendell is being gentlemanly-- and smart politicly. You don't bad-mouth someone that is down. It's called bulletin board material in sports-- it inspires your opponent against you. Until we see an actual pol that puts Fisher within 6, I'll believe this quote from the article: Democrat Ed Rendell, the former Philadelphia mayor, holds a double-digit lead in most polls over Republican Mike Fisher, the state attorney general.
To: frmrda; Coop
You said it. That is what will happen.
To: TroutStalker
They have supported Democrats statewide before and Fisher is the invisible man.
