We have little more than a week left to get the word out across this great land we love and call the United States of America.
On Wednesday, September 11, 2002, all Americans who will be driving a motor vehicle are being asked to do so with their HEADLIGHTS ON.
Contact the newspaper in your town or at your school. Call the television and radio stations in your area. Inform your elected representatives. Pass the word at your place of employment. Tell your family, friends and neighbors. Send this e-mail to people. Discuss this event in chatrooms and on message boards.
No explanation is needed as to why we are commemorating September 11 in this fashion. However, we hope to pay respect to the victims of that day, display our nation's solidarity, and, show support for our men and women in the Armed Forces.
"Let's roll" down the roads and highways with our headlights on this September 11!

""Let's roll" with our HEADLIGHTS ON this 9/11" Let us not.
Let us not substitute symbolic gestures for actual results.
Let us not belittle the loss of thousands with a silly gesture that costs nothing.
Let us instead arrange the deaths of an equal number of terrorists--for starters--on 9/11/2002.
Let us instead enact an outrage of equal proportion upon the center of the Islamic world. I favor saturating Mecca with the blood and entrails of swine.

Here's what one "person" is doing on 9-11
Patrick Scully, a Minneapolis performance artist and activist, said he has found himself awaiting the anniversary with some dread. "I didn't want to find myself remembering the day surrounded by flag-waving people wanting to bomb Iraq for revenge," he said. He said he knows many people who feel as he does -- people who want to remember the tragedy but move forward in peace.
"We don't support a war on terrorism with no end in sight," said Scully, 48. "It feels like the McCarthy era, just before my time. Never before in my adult life has it felt more unsafe to be critical of the government than it feels right now." So Scully is asking people with similar views to participate in what he's calling a public art ritual. At 9:11 p.m. on Sept. 11, they'll meet on the bridge between Boom Island Park and Nicollet Island in Minneapolis to launch "frozen tears" in the Mississippi River. They'll light small candles and float them in tiny boats made of ice. For directions on how to make the ice boats, see
http://www.frozentears.org.
The candles and the river will melt the ice, "symbol of the new cold war, sometimes also called the war on terrorism," Scully said. "We'll release the tears and let them melt." He won't guess how many people will participate. Twenty would be fine, he said, and 2,000 would be better.
Isn't that just so special?

JD, much as I appreciate your spirit, there is nothing lamer than a "let's all drive with our headlights on" movement. Many of the newer cars have headlights that stay on all the time anyway, and nobody will notice a few extra older cars with lights on.
To: JDinz
I'll do you all one better and drive with my high beams on all day long honking at passing traffic to show my patriotism.
Come to think of it, why let your spirit stop at the driveway? I'm going to keep my lights on when I get to work and wedge a stick between the seat and the steering wheel so that the horn will announce my steely resolve all day long when I'm at work, just to show the terrorists that they can't keep America down. I'll rig up extra batteries to my car with red white and blue jumper cables so my car's voice won't be silenced or my spirit dimmed.

While I agree with the cause this time, I oppose any calls to support anything by driving with your lights on. My car, like most late model cars runs the headlights all the time. I'd like to this disturbing trend stopped before I'm seen with my headlights on during the Earth Day Peta Save a Cat Eat a Carot While Saving a Whale by Porking Rosie Headlight Celebration.
