NEW YORK (AP) -- The Masters is going commercial-free, dropping its corporate sponsors to avoid pressure on them by a women's organization that challenged Augusta National's all-male membership.

Club chairman Hootie Johnson on Friday notified the tournament's three sponsors -- IBM, Citigroup and Coca-Cola -- that the Masters "will not request their participation" in 2003.

CBS would pay the Masters for the rights to air this right ? If there are no corporate sponsers to sell ad time to, where does CBS recoup to money they put out for the rights to broadcast the tournament ?

I have been there a few times. Only once during a tournament round but many times during practice rounds. They charge $1.00 for a ham and cheese sandwich, $1.50 for a long-neck beer poured into a green cup. Everything is wrapped in green paper in case someone should drop something on the fairway. Yes they do have green sand with which they fill divots. Everything is understated and subtle. I saw a teenager next to me take off his shirt and lie back in the rough. A marshall was on him instantly and very politely asked him to put his shirt back on. The tone of the voice was extremely firm but very polite. There is nothing much left on this planet that can compare to that place.

Just imagine if EVERY private organization in America said "NO!" to these PC demands. No, that is literally unthinkable these days...

I don't know. The Masters has never been about money, tv rights and such. When John Daly was having so much trouble with the PGA the Masters was asked to disinvite him, ignoring their own guidelines of who is eligible. They politely declined the PGA's request and followed their own traditions. They are a private organization and the Masters Tournament is a private tournament.

Of course you have an exclusionary policy.
Admitting it and carrying on is the honest
thing to do.  To try denying the obvious
insults the intelligence of everyone involved,
and makes it look like truth is excluded, too.

They have unwritten exclusions such as 'slow play is to be avoided'. To say that they have an explicit exclusionary policy is not necessarily true.

I have a friend who just drove right up Magnolia Lane. He was stopped and very politely asked to leave.

The place is amazing. It's as if every blade of grass has but one purpose in life, to please the golfer.

Try this. The practice rounds are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Go to the gates about 2 or 3 o'clock on those days. When people come out ask them for their badges. They'll surely give them to you! I have.

I'm sure they don't.  Merrill Lynch didn't have an explicit
policy for their brokers to push stock that was tanking
