Thanks for this interesting reply.

"The simple fact is, (NEPA) has been used and abused by those who want to obstruct activities" such as logging in national forests, said Chris West, vice president of the American Forest Resource Council, a timber industry group.

"As more and more agencies can weigh in and make stipulations and requirements, the process in many cases has become much more costly and has proved to be an obstacle to development," said Darren McKinney, spokesman for the National Association of Manufacturers.

The review was launched last month by the White House Council on Environmental Quality, which says the law needs to be updated after three decades of being essentially unchanged. A nine-member task force is accepting public comment through Sept. 23 and expects to issue a report by early next year.

"We're not out to gut" the law, task force director Horst Greczmiel said. "We're out there to try to make it better. In common parlance, we want to cut the fat if there's fat out there and we want to beef up the beef."

I had a little discussion with this downsizing of the fire with a friend who will remain unknown, but he has a lot of experience with the envirals, the floristry service, the epa and other fed gov Hit organizations for the greens.

He feels the the floristry circus PR folks ran some Focus groups with some sheeple of Oregon.

If they were told that the Biscuit Fire burnt over 500,000 acres, those groups reacted very negatively and were upset.

Other groups were told that over 400,000 acres were burnt, and most of the Oregon Sheeple shrugged and ordered another Star Buck's Latte or Mocha. This was probably repeated several times in Portland, where they don't know an acre from a paving stone. Since that is where the votes come from, they decided to downsize the fire. If the fire had been started by a logger, the estimates would have been heading towards a million acres.

My friend says that this is an old government trick of understating the damage when it is bad news. Or as we see with the Green Weenies overstating the bad news when they want to do rural cleansing.

thanks for the ping, Grampa Dave. thank goodness it's only officially 499,780 acres incinerated. when you see a sign that says $19.99, do you automatically reach for a twenty? i do. in a way, downgrading an already astronomical figure a tiny bit leaves, to me anyway, an astronomical figure. a good photo history of the epic spring mud slides will be helpful for the future battle. now, if we only knew anyone who lives near the firezone who owns a digital camera. hmmmm. :o)

That is exactly their logic. A item for sale at $10,000 to the math dumb sounds expensive, but the same item on sale at $9999.99 is so affordable.

We have a great photographer in the area. Wanderin has posted pictures of the fire/smoke from her driveway and near the fire. She has sent me pictures of the bill board where our sign will be.

I have on my calendar to send freep mail to Wanderin and others for pictures and updates when the rains start to come down.

The fires and then the floods, mudslides and terrible conditions are just different phases of the greens Rural Cleansing tools.

Besides the great reporting. Freepers do things.

Freepers, like Wanderin take pictures.

Freepers like Ebuck and Paul Atreides develop a concept for a billboard to point out to the world that the Greens are responsible for these fires in Oregon.

A Freeper who doesn't even live in Oregon or in the West foots the bill to put that art concept up on that bill board and pays for the rent for the first month.

Then Freepers like us, donate money to pay for more months for that bill board.

So we not only report the real news, we make news and take stands against the Green Devils and other lefties. They can't handle our reality.

AAAbest is doing incredible work with his SawGrass Rebellion in Florida. Again not just reporting, but positive actions and making good news.

I can't believe what's going here Grampa. A few months ago we were getting slapped around in those awful "Bush Wars" threads, now you're putting up billboards and I'm helping to organize festivals. HOW KOOL IS THAT?!

Hey Grampa Dave,

An angel (see above), ask me to ask you if you have seen any of these fighting fire in your area? They're three in Northern California and they work great in mop up operations as well as on the front line.

Are you guys about to get things under control?

We both have realized that a far worse enemy, these Watermelon Green Jihadists are out to get us.

If conservatives across the breadth of that term, don't band together to stop these Green Devils. They will win, and we can kiss our private property and our lives goodbye. That will be a terrible legacy to pass on to our children and grandchildren.

Many of the hard core anti greens on FR have put our political agendas/mantras aside to focus on the Green Devils.

The international Greens and US greens have suffered a massive PR loss in S. Africa this week. The Euro Trash governments are calling home their ministers of Green Fascism.

I predict that our US Greens will go ballistic very soon.

Hopefully our upcoming billboard in the Medford, Oregon area will drive more of them into total insanity.

Your Sawgrass Rebellion has incredible potential re waking up America and Floriduh's who still think that greens are good for America. I expect the Floriduh Green Devils to start going bonkers down there as your A teams get to them.

To quote you, It is very Kool! I had much rather spend my energy fighting the Green Fascists with other conservatives than fighting each other. These Green Devils are our real enemies not fellow conservatives.

I live in Kali, and I haven't seen these great machines.

This is a critical upcoming few days with the Biscuit Fire in Oregon. There will be some winds from the NE and some warmer temps.

If those containment lines can be really joined on the west and hold, that fire may be contained until the fall/winter rains come.

The problem is that in Sept/Oct in Curry County, the weather often will cause Banana Belt Days or the Chetco Effect. A high builds up in Eastern Oregon/Nevada. This causes north winds to come done to N.Kali.

That causes a NE wind in Curry County to send the air rushing downhill to Brooking and other cities on the coast. The air heats up and Brookings can be 90 degrees during one of these Banaa Belt/Chetco Effect Days. That NE wind could blow some burning embers from the burning Kalmiopsis wilderness area down in the Chetco and Pistol Rivers canyons, and that would be diaster.

Fortunately today in the Kali Wine Country we have coastal cloudiness and no wind. For a large part of the week we have had a very drying North wind. Irrigated plants, shrubs and flowers that stay moist in high heat with normal irrigation have gotten very dry this past week. I have had to double the irrigation re minutes and go to twice a day versus once a day. I was fishing at Putah Creek below Lake Berryessa, Thursday. That whole area was as dry as a fire tinder.

So where are those 3 Fire Tracks in Kali? We may need them.

They're in Redding. I'll freepmail you the contact information. They work really well for helping to hold containment lines due to their speed.

I keep forgetting to ping you. You might be interested in the upcoming billboard, that some Freepers are putting up on I5 Northbound just out of Medford.

Cool machine! We have the technology to fight some pretty large fires if we just had the forward looking management to put it into place along with a common sense proactive forest management practice.

Better watch it or some will be knocking on your door! lol

The trouble is that one or two of these machines will not make much difference. Imagine 50 of them four and six abreast working a major fire line with water tankers and helicopters supporting them instead of wasting water on aerial drops where most dissipates before the fire can be extinguished.

We have other technology such as compressed air foam systems (CAFS)that can take 1 gallon of water and produces up to 20 gallons for product much better suited for putting out fire than water alone.

These machines also need to be equipped with the latest FLIR and air filtering systems so they can see and work in the worst of smoke conditions. They need to have dedicated crews and be stationed at strategic locations throughout the US ready to respond when needed. I guarantee you can keep them gainfully employee year round as the fire season comes at different times of the year based on different locations in the US.
