Yawner. How long before Simon succumbs to 'the Republican disease' and apologizes for some of his staffs' being unduly - and unauthorizedly - harsh?

Disavow the Bill Simon questionnaire returned to the homosexual lobby group Log Cabin Club (with it's sellout positions), a few days ago, and maybe then wallets will be opened up once again.

SIMON.

I hate Grayout Davis, but if Simon is making such a pathetic swipe like this on Dioxin, a political-scare tactic suited to enviro-politicos....then what's the point?

California is in an awful mess, and it can only get worse. If Davis wins - and he probably will by default - California will keep a governor that just suits its third-world status.

Here's on I just got a minute ago:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 29, 2002

SIMON ROLLS OUT GOVERNMENT ETHICS PLAN AS DAVIS CONTINUES TO SHAKE DOWN

SPECIAL INTERESTS SIMON WILL NOT RAISE MONEY DURING LEGISLATIVE
SESSION'S CLOSE

SACRAMENTO - With Governor Gray Davis capitalizing on the flurry of
end-of-session legislation to squeeze even more campaign dollars from
special interests, gubernatorial nominee Bill Simon today unveiled his
plan to address government ethics in Sacramento - an issue quickly swept
aside in the Davis administration.

Speaking before the Rotary Club of Sacramento, Simon said one had only
to apply the Rotarians own test of truth, fairness, building goodwill
and working for the benefit of all, in order to expose the ethical
shortcomings of Gray Davis' governorship.

"I would argue that if California's governor lived by the Rotarian's
test, our state would be in much better shape," Simon said. "But time
and time again, Gray Davis has failed that test. That is especially
troubling because we should be able to expect so much more from our
governor. After all, serving the public is not merely Gray Davis' job,
it should be his honor as the highest elected official in the state."

Simon said years of questionable fundraising activity have created an
atmosphere among Californians that Davis is running a pay to play
administration.

"Public confidence today is shaken in many of our institutions, and no
more so than in our government. As governor, I will take clear and
unambiguous steps to restore accountability and trust in our
government," Simon said.

The plan includes: an independent audit of all state spending; ensuring
taxpayers are not stuck footing the bill to an out-of-balance budget by
instituting a mid-year budget review with the possibility of automatic
spending cuts; and ending sole source contracting.

Simon also said a special effort must be taken in order to end the
campaign cash for policy appearance created by the Davis administration.

"When I am governor, voters will know that my decisions are guided by
sound public policy, not campaign contributions. That's why I'll even
avoid the appearance of impropriety by not raising money during the
final month of legislative session and during the 30-day bill signing
period following it," Simon said.

Simon looks ready to go aggressively negative, and he's going to need to hit Gay Davis hard where it counts -- on the fact that Davis has raised all this incredibly dirty money. Heck, where's John McLame? You'd think with all of Gray Dirtvis's campaign finance shenanigans, McLame would be up there stumping for Simon big time.

Regardless of the outcome of the election and regardless of how poorly Simon has campaigned thus far, we will all remember one aspect of the campaign.

The egray.com spoof.

The first time I heard it this morning I almost drove off the road I was laughing so hard.

When and where are these ads running? I get my satellite "local" network access from LA and I see Davis' ads all the time, I have yet to see a Simon ad. I only watch Fox and sometimes CBS so that may be the problem.

I have yet to see a Simon ad on the radio or hear one on tv. Now maybe thats my problem and I need to start listening to the radio, and watching the TV. at any rate, if it weren't for the bumper sticker on some neighbor's car, I wouldn't even know he is running.
