IMHO, AIT's not the enemy here...honestly, I think he's trying to hold Simon's feet to the fire more than trying to undercut his candidacy. I was around for the GoPatGo/Dubyuh FReeperWars and there is still a lot of distrust and hard feelings on this site because of those debates. If I recall correctly, AIT was a GoPatGoer and, if so, I'm sure he still bears the scars of unfair attacks from the BushBackers. Let's keep that in mind as we attempt to absorb the Brigadiers back into our ranks. If they reject our kindness and understanding, we will have exposed them at RAT Trolls, of which there were/are many.

I'm just sick of seeing perfect being the enemy of good enough. I prioritize. First, knock out the bribe-taking governor. Then hold the replacement's feet to the fire. We've got to be team players to an extent. Keep the fights in the primaries. That's what the nomination procress is for.

As someone pointed out yesterday, have you noticed that when the race is real close and it appears the conservative candidate is going to win that the Log Cabin Republicans come out of their bath house and louse things up? (pun not intended)

Coincidence? I guess the good thing is that whole episode was in the SF Chronicle so maybe nobody read/noticed it. Did it make it to other statewide papers - SacBee, OCRegister, etc?

There is too much at stake in the Republic. And there are too many instances of conservative principles being sold down the river so the result was we got exactly what the Dem's proposed, only maybe in slower installments over a longer period of time.

Thanks ... I still think we're in a war. I was reading Horowitz's "Art of the Political War" and realized that Democrats really treat politics AS war, and we Republicans treat it as a game. I do think we're winning on a lot of fronts. 9/11 brought God back into public. And the more liberals attempt to push Him out, the more they will lose. We have the ideas, the principles, and the hope -- we just need to communicate our message better.

I agree with your response. If we are to win this battle, it can not be accomplished if we are all going in different directions.
We have to take back the Republican party from within. If those who get mad and run to a third party would join those of us who are trying to implement change in the Republican Party from within the party structure, we could take the party back from the RINOS, in a short time.

No seriously...I guess it was on the other thread that you posted, but I asked for more specifics on exactly what it was that Simon said in response to this questionnaire. Have we actually seen what it was that made Simon's responses as a sell-out of conservatism?!

Help me out here...I'm trying to play fair, but I haven't had time to read the whole thread. Are the responses posted somewhere yet? If not, how can we conceivably ask him to retract statements we haven't seen?

They should start this weekend. That is what I heard on KFBK,and Simon's camp. Email him or them from their website, and get the local stations they paid to have them aired. I understand that several were aired in the Sacramento, SF area. On radio for sure, but limited in TV, more costly. I am sure he is targeting areas he needs to secure or gain voter's influence. I have not asked that question, but as a supporter, I will seek it from a source I know. Stay tune, but if you start seeing them, well, your answer is met. :o)

A political fact: The California's Correctional Officer Association is supporting Grayout. Why, because Grayout approve a 37% pay increase in the next few years! For that they gave Grayout donations!

Do you live outside the US? I know, you are a USA citizen, right? Just asking, because, if you do, and not affillated as a resident of Ca, then I have no argument except, this is California, and this is our elections with our candidates! Don't knock it unless you have to live here and put up with the corruption and pandering the "rats" have dealt their hands onto the Citizens of Ca.
I am not trying to get into an argument with ya, just that I have read your reponses, and counter responses. This state is a crazy state at the moment, and we need the change, Simon is the one to be held accountable for that future change to bring Ca back into reality check. We have to unbalance the Capitol Dome as it stands now!

What about those who don't believe in God?

Centralized planning has created shortages; decentralized planning creates plenty. To assume that there is a central leader who's all wise and powerful seems like a concept from the olden days, when Kings ruled and claimed they got their power from God.

I don't want to go back to the good old days, do you?

If we accept that our ethics come from God, then if God does not exist, ethics do not exist either - and I think we would both agree that is a dangerous idea indeed.

So my ethics come from the Golden Rule which is as valid with God as without His presence. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Since I don't want someone to kill me, I don't kill. Since I don't want someone to steal, I don't steal. And since I wouldn't want someone to taunt me for being different, I'm not going to taunt them for being different, either.

Thus, respect for individual choices unless they directly, tangibly harm others. This is the philosophy that creates the highest level of freedom to all. Since freedom is one of my core values, that's what I support.

Do you see how close this comes to an absolute? I don't know anyone who wants to be killed or have his property stolen. But it's a firmer foundation than God, because many people believe in different Gods with different rules. Does that give them a right to behave according to those rules in our country? No, because we have laws based on the Golden Rule, and it's very much a part of our culture.

Enough about my personal philosophy. How is this relevent to the clash between Davis and Simon?

Well, understand that Simon is on a mission. He wants to try and right the economic wrongs that this state has suffered from. He wants to help education. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things, but that's the basic agenda.

Simon is imitating George W Bush and Ronald Reagan. They had a small, manageable set agenda they wanted to pursue. WHy? Because they could actually accomplish something that way. Clinton tried to do everything, and you may have noticed that in 8 years, he accomplished next to nothing.

You may not like his agenda because the social issues you support are largely absent. But that's like taking a ship that's on the rocks and having long discussions about the morality of the passengers, instead of getting them all off. That's our situation today.

The sad fact, from your point of view, is that neither candidate is supporting a religious agenda. Both of them have things that are far more important to deal with, such as whether the state can survive without going bust. You should judge them accordingly - which candidate is more likely to solve the state's problems?

I'll tell you one thing: That ain't Gray Davis. He has a proven record of being unable to solve any problem. Instead, he just pushes their consequences into the future, with disasterous results for all.

So vote for Simon, even if you don't like his social positions. After all, Davis' social positions aren't any better.
