Reagan Room
8/29/02

Posted on 08/29/2002 1:31:05 PM PDT by Tumbleweed_Connection

For a number of reasons I have never used my subscription bar. It was not until recently that I turned it on and realized what has been changed. But that's not the issue.

I saw the forums, but I don't understand how they work. I am interested in creating a Reagan Forum if it doesn't already exist.

My purpose for the post is two-fold. First, I'm curious as to how much interest this would generate, and second, I wonder if this wouldn't be an effective effort against the Leftist goal to destroy the accomplishments of one of America's greatest leaders.

Realizing Reagan's death is not far away, the vultures are certainly awaiting their cruel attacks. This online conservative group began well after Reagan's term, yet still understands/supports his accomplishments and values. My thought was that we could begin an effort to further/continue his cause before his death and the eminent Leftist attacks.

Your thoughts.

Ronald Reagan
got the country going again,
whipped inflation,
ended the energy crisis, and
transcended communism.
The best the Democratic Party can do is FDR, who
let the economy flounder almost two terms, 'til WWII
struggled long to con the nation into war with Germany against its settled (80% poll rating) desire, and used "magic" signal intelligence to mousetrap America and Germany into conflict; having done so
his Navy (FDR was a veteran of the civil Navy bureacracy) immediately failed to prevent a Stalingrad-class defeat inflicted on American shipping by U-boats, all the while resisting the counsel of painful British experience. German officers very nearly succeeded in getting Hitler to withdraw from the winter mousetrap in Russia, which would have enabled Germany to dominate the entire Mediteranean and create a true Atlantic Wall before the US had enough strength to do a thing about it.

he personally positioned his battleships in Pearl Harbor against the bitter opposition of an admiral he later sacked. Although his political machinations indicated his expectation of a Japanese attack, those machinations dictated that he not risk the exposure of that knowledge--a logical reason for his not putting all Pacific forces on alert. His military planning assumed away the possibility of Japanese blitzkrieg reaching the Dutch East Indies and the source of 90% of U.S. rubber imports.

loss of 20,000 US servicemen in the ill-prepared Philipines followed directly from the success of FDR's settled policy of instigating a Japanese attack.

FDR's VP had the charter to arrange for import of stategic materials from South America, and used the occasion to assay to spread the New Deal to that entire region, in view of a worldwide New Deal. Thus dissipating vast financial resources in the teeth of the crisis.

In the teeth of the management crisis which was the start of WWII, FDR refused the services of America's most noted executive, Herbert Hoover, for political reasons.

FDR's administration was loaded with communists and hardly any of its policies could be said to be anything other than helpful the the Soviet Union. Including even to inclusion of uranium in lend-lease . . .

FDR broke the traditional 2-term limit in 1940, and ran for reelection in 1944 when he should instead have been resigning for reasons of (the almost complete lack of) health. It's true that his VP at the time wasn't qualified for dogcatcher--but then, whose fault was that?

FDR and the other who focused his administration on him, our nation's first impeached. America is exposed to nothing but Leftist endorsements of these two, as if they molded our country! Good point. And the idea of burying one of America's truly greatest? The Leftists aren't going to stop promoting their two heroes nor will they overlook the opportunity to aggressively assualt Reagan. That's why I'm surprised at the few responses here.

I spotted an old Booknotes show last saturday i think, replayed on BookTV, Cspan2. The book was The New Dealers' War by Thomas Fleming.

Turns out that America was dead set (80%)against fighting Germany, and accepted the occasional incident of USN casualties in the Atlantic during 1941 while USN was, under orders from FDR, harassing the U-boats in hopes by FDR of getting an incident which could be turned into a causus belli (sp).

Then on Dec 4, 1941 came an embarassing revelation: front-page stories about FDR administration plans for a 2-front war concentrating on Germany and entailing huge army and navy draft. Terribly embarassing for FDR, right? The peace advocates of the day had a field day. Wham!! Dec 7, Pearl Harbor! How could those peaceniks have been so wrong?!!

But it's common knowledge that FDR was putting the screws to Japan, and that FDR had magic intelligence . . . there was a big FBI investigation of the leak, which went to UH OH. This is above my pay grade. And stopped. The prime suspect was not incupated, and in fact had an effective subsequent military career and not sent to the Aleutian Islands.

IOW, dogs that didn't bark are falling all over each other. Hitler declared war, not so much because of the treaty with Japan (not a real reason, it seems) but because of the leaked plan to fight him. His generals wanted to immediately redeploy from Russia, withdraw to a defensive position, and use the troops to freeze the US out of the Med and any decent approach to attacking Germany.

And they temporarily convinced Hitler, but . . .

And after fineggling for a year or so to get into war with Germany, FDR had no provision in place to oppose the U-boats. A dozen boats with pea shooters, which couldn't even defeat a U-boat if it didn't submerge!! AND no blackout on the coast, AND no convoys. 397 ships lost in the first 6 months!!

Not to mention that between WWI and WWII exactly 2 torpedo test firings were conducted!!!

Sign me up, when I think of losing the Great One, I almost cry. The man was my Commander in Chief, he is the reason that I joined the military, he is the reason that I got my patriotism back.

This country was dying by degrees, and he saved us and got us healthy again.

To see these leftist scum try and destroy his great works with revisionist BS just pisses me off!!

SIGN ME UP!!!

What he gave to me, I can never repay, but I can at least try!!

I'd like to be included as well. I never got to vote for the man, but oh how I wanted to. I admired and respected him very much as a President.
