Iran has its own timezone. So does Afghanistan. Newfoundland should continue to have its own timezone, too, because it needs something like being the first place in the New World the sun touches every day. What else does it have?
People are always saying how much they want the West, but that the socialist East can take a flying leap...
Alberta is understandable, as it is essentially Texas north, but the reality of the situation is that BC is WAY left of California, has elected NDP governments routinely (when you here NDP, think Nader and the Green party), and in fact runs annual provincial deficits. They have the worst lib judges in the country. As for Sask and Manitoba, they also run an annual deficits, and both have elected the NDP as their current government. Manitoba is a complete basket case, and aside from the maritime provinces is the biggest drain on the country financially.
One the other hand, Ontario runs a budget surplus, and is far and away the most prosporous province. They have elected consecutive conservative governments, have cut taxes, reformed the welfare system to get thousands off the dole and fought for more provincial autonomy. They also happen to have the lowest crime rate of any region in North America.
When ranking the provinces in terms of most to least conservative, Ontario ranks #2 in all of Canada.
That they have. In fact, they are secure to the point that they are the only province with no provincial sales tax. But Ontario has things like the bulk of Canadian manufacturing, some of the richest farmland in the world, uranium mines, the other NORAD station, and more fun stuff. Ask all the 19 year old Americans who come up here to drink legally. ;)
More on topic (sort of): Did you know that standard time was invented by a Canadian?
If the state were in the Central Time Zone, where it belongs, maybe I could accept it.
Ironically, in light of all the government-mandated safety features in cars and workplaces, studies continue to show a marked increase in traffic accidents and job-related injuries during the weeks following the imposition of DST every spring.

Yeah, I smile at that too. BC has been NDP and are now Liberal as is the Yukon. Manitoba and Saskatchewan are NDP and Sask. is the birth place of socialized medicine in Canada. Ontario, N.B., N.S.and PEI all have conservative governments. Alberta has oil and gas , so does Ontario, and the Maritimes. Ontario gold and nickel mines mines rank with the world's largest, along with the silver, zinc, platinum, and soon more diamonds. Manufacturing and the forest industry represent billions in trade surpluses. Fresh water, big sport fish and good beer......
Retentive regards,
I think this is one of those words that shouldn't be a word, once you think of it.......maybe in San Francisco, but that would be about all....
I agree. If people want to shift their work schedules in the summer, that's fine. Changing clocks is idiotic. My mother used to set her clock 5 minutes ahead so she'd have a bit of margin for getting to work. Of course she got to depend on that an had to increase it to 10 minutes. By the time she retired, her clocks were 40 minutes ahead.
The function of a clock is to provide a standard. There is no reason people can't adjust their schedules around seasons without fooling with the standard.
Give that man a ceegar!.
This biannual disruption in the normal progress of our ordering our lives around the rising and setting of the sun, is an outrage.
It started as "War Time." Jimmy Carter reinstitued it off the "Oil Crisis."
It has not gone away. Why? I reckon so the Yuppies can get in a round of golf, after a full day of pride and plunder, Yet, tomorrow morning, children will wait in the dark for the school bus.
Stop the insanity.
It has dulse( so does New Brunswick).
