TSA Wants YOU -- Yeah, Right

TSA Wants YOU -- Yeah, Right
More Experience, From a Reader

Despite the fact that the TSA says it's hiring lots of new screeners, our readers' experiences invariably point in an opposite direction.

This reader, replying to yesterday's article, essentially a plea from the TSA for recruits, points out several problems the TSA is manufacturing for itself. Here's what he said:

**My recent application, test, and interview to become a screener with TCA is apparently very similar to others you have reported. Even though I have had 18 years of law enforcement experience and been a commercial pilot for 30 years, they didn't think I needed a job with their organization.

During the testing process, every 10 minutes or so, someone would come by and ask if any of us now worked as a screener. If so, apparently you automaticly had the job. The worst part though is that the test, which I tought was one of the easiest tests I have ever taken, is a pass/fail test. They will not tell you your score, or let you see your test results. In other words, that's a way to discriminate by race, sex, etc. without having to say it.

I was very disheartened by the testing procedure, and now have no comfidence in the new agency.

Also, they must be spending millions of dollars daily on the application procedures. They used a lavish hotel, numerous federal employees, hired numerous off-duty local police officers as security, hired a rent-a-cop company to do searches, and used lavish buses to transport applicants from one location to another. The security was so tight during the process, that you would have thought we were applying for the CIA!**

[Many thanks to this reader, and to the many others who have written us with similar experiences, from TSA events all over the country --ed.]

Just talked with someone "in the know" today who says the whole thing is a sham -- all for show. In reality: it's in a shambles. After boarding your plane, check for knives taped to seat bottoms and sharp objects hidden in cushions -- you might be surpirsed at what you find.

In todays Wall Street Journal there was an article about how airlines have gone totally facist about the dimensions of your checked bags. Isn't that special.
