Vanity - Army Basic Training Fitness Requirements? (posted 8/28/2002)
08/28/2002 | Myself

I am interested in the fitness requirements for the Army Basic Training.

(i.e. how many pushups, situps, etc for minimum BT requirements, and what are considered to be above average levels).

I realize these are different for each age group, but after countless Google searches, I can't seem to find any diffinitive answers. Can someone here help me out? I am male, age group 20-25.

I am trying to measure my current fitness level against that of the armies with the possibility of future enrollment in mind. Thanks!

Story time regarding never volunteering for anything.

We were hanging around waiting to get in the next line at the reception station when this drill wandered over and asked if anyone knew how to drive a stick. A couple of the stupid ones volunteered that they could. He pointer to a mop and bucket in the corner and told them to start driving.

I went in at E4. E5 in 1.5 yrs. SSG in 4.5. Wasn't around long enough to send in a packet for 7.

From my marine PFT Score Sheet (Male):

Pullups - Max 20=100 Points - Each 1=5 Points [10 is minimum for ocs]

Crunches - 2 Minute Limit - Max 100=100 Points 1 point each[51 is minimum for ocs=51 points]

3 Mile Run - Max 18:00 Minutes=100 Points [26:10 is the minimum=51 points] 24:00 is minimum for ocs

I have been working on it for about 2 weeks now. The pullups suck the most because you can not kick at all.

My score right now would be about:
3 mile run in 20 minutes=88 points
80 ab crunches = 80 points
and I can not do 10 "regulation" pull ups but can do 11 that are not regulation, so my score for pullups would be a 55.
TOTAL= 223.
The minimum score allowed is 225. By the time I take my pft in October, it should be 255 - if I can knock 30 seconds off my run - get all 100 ab crunches in and get up to 15 pull-ups. Would love to get a 300, but doubt I could get my 3 mile time down to 18:00 and doubt I will be able to do 20 pullups - PULLUPS SUCK!!!!!

Oh - I am 31 years old.

In Basic, we had three guys volunteer for KP(which really sucks in Basic) because they thought they we're going to get out of going through the gas chamber. They went the next day! Suckers.

"The minimum score allowed is 225. By the time I take my pft in October, it should be 255 -"

I should have wrote that the minimum allowed is 225 and that by the time I take the PFT in October, my score should be (at least) 255. the minimum will not change - but if they wanted to lower the # of pullups - I would be down with that!

I've done it twice now. You won't like the taste, smell, or feeling of it either.

Yeah, you got that right. Last time I went in, I'd had a runny nose all day. Afterwards, not a problem for days!

At the present with the situation as it is, if you can sit up, stand up, walk, see and hear, you're in there. Take your pick, army, airforce, marine, or navy.
