We need to be more vocal in driving these politicians from our midst.

"Jennifer Granholm appears at campaign stops with a Bible in her hand, but she's not following what it says," Stephens said.

I wonder if Bill Clinton lent her that really big Bible he used to carry around in 1998? It hasn't been seen since the Senate voted to acquit.

Well, women who have abortions are already automatically excommunicated. I don't understand why Catholic abortion doctors and politicians who vote for partial birth abortions aren't excommunicated too?

" Anti-abortion activists "

I don't know the political persuasion of the author or the Detroit News, but they cling to the archaic terminology of decades ago, I'm sure for effect.

How about Pro-Life activists Detroit??? Welcome to the new millenium!

Let her go on with her drivel.

A few weeks ago she debated her democrat adversaries here in Michigan, prior to the primary election; it was broadcast here and I have to tell you, she's the one we want to run against in November.

Blanchard was his usual idiotic self and the pit-Yorkie (David Bonior) was also a predictable obnoxious quantity. But the bottom line I got from the debate was, and this is only my opinion, Granholm is an empty skirt. Number one; she doesn't have the experience necessary to administer the governorship, and number two; she is a walking intellectual vacuum. Not fit to be dogcatcher.

So she'll probably be elected.

Actually, it is a woman who had her rights trampled on by the police who is suing. The Thomas More Law Center is representing her, free of charge, as always. [THe papers always get this sort of stuff wrong - especially when the angle of the story is "Monaghan stirs up trouble again" when it should be "peaceful woman denied basic constitutional rights by punk suburban cops who should know better"]

after Our Lady of Good Counsel associate pastor the Rev. Doc Ortman wrote an Aug. 4 article in the church bulletin that defended Granholm's right to be pro-choice and Catholic

Hey - there's a big demand from a lot of Catholic priests for letters saying blatant homosexual conduct is OK, from a lot of Catholic husbands saying that adultery's just fine and from a lot of married couples that divorce is no problem. Keep writing them, Rev. Doc Ortman. Your hand is going to be mightily tired.

My wife is Roman Catholic and I simply can't understand the Catholic church's policy on supporting political candidates. For example, my mother in-law is a devout liberal (public school teacher) and votes primarily for pro-choice democrats. When Oregon had the death with dignity ballot measure (legalized suicide) she was rabidly against it. I just don't understand the hypocracy withing the Catholic church. I heard more Catholics screaming bloody murder over the legalized suicide measure than the total on anti abortion stuff. In fact, when we went through the pre-marriage stuff there was hardly any talk about abortion and the official church stance.

Granholm spokesman Chris DeWitt defended the pickets' rights to protest but objected to their methods, which include displaying photos of aborted fetuses.

They hate for people to see what's really going on, that's for sure.

Good news "happy" and my awesome fellow freepers

BISHOP COMPELS PRIEST TO APOLOGIZE FOR “PRO-CHOICE” DEFENCE

Catholics Demand Detroit Cardinal Publicly Censure Pro-Abortion Catholic Candidate

PLYMOUTH, MI, August 27, 2002 (LSN.ca) - Amidst pressure from his Bishops and criticism from fellow priests, a Catholic priest who advocated abortion asked forgiveness in the bulletin of Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) Parish on Sunday August 25th. "At the request of Cardinal Maida, Bishop Kevin Britt has asked that I write to allay the fears of some that I am less than Catholic in my dedication to life," began the apology from Fr. Doc Ortman, associate pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) parish.

Faithful Catholics took to the streets in protest after the parish refused to recant the false teaching Fr. Ortman put forward in a previous parish bulletin which said being "pro-choice" was an authentically Catholic position. In the controversial bulletin the priest was attempting to give support to a pro-abortion politician - Jennifer Granholm - who is a member of the parish.

Meanwhile, other Catholic priests in the Archdiocese of Detroit printed condemnations of Fr. Ortman's views. Fr. Dan Zaleski of St. Albert the Great Parish in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, said in his Sunday bulletin that priests who champion the pro-choice abortion view are "dead wrong," and that Catholics who vote for a pro-choice candidate "sanction murder." In his "Sunday Column," Fr. Eduard Perrone of Assumption Grotto in Detroit expressed his desire that the Cardinal apply the "one-strike and out" policy (enacted for clergy sexual-abusers) "to such priests who dissent publicly from Catholic teaching."

Lay Catholics who had been demonstrating outside the parish welcomed the apology but are demanding that Adam Cardinal Maida of the Archdiocese of Detroit further publicly censure the pro-abortion gubernatorial candidate and OLGC parishioner. Matt Bowman, a spokesman for the group said "The lie that a Catholic can be 'pro-choice' on abortion must be clarified now so that Catholics do not vote believing Granholm is a faithful Catholic."

The archdiocese mostly has stayed out of the fray, except to issue a statement reaffirming its opposition to abortion after Our Lady of Good Counsel associate pastor the Rev. Doc Ortman wrote an Aug. 4 article in the church bulletin that defended Granholm's right to be pro-choice and Catholic.

I suppose you have a right to be for lower taxes and be a Democrat too, but why would you want to? If you're pro-choice, find a church that believes as you do. It's not as if there aren't any.

Granholm spokesman Chris DeWitt defended the pickets' rights to protest but objected to their methods, which include displaying photos of aborted fetuses.

Oh, good heavens to Betsy. What is the world coming to when people who want to talk about abortion show pictures of an abortion? How are we supposed to keep the conversation about women's rights and constitutional privacy and whatever else if you keep reminding us that the subject is abortion? Couldn't the placards carry pictures of rutabegas or something so we don't have to remember what the subject matter really is? I mean, come on!

Shalom.
