[history]
Sen. Robert Torricelli is asking voters to look beyond the headlines and engage in complicated analysis of his character and that of Republican challenger Doug Forrester, along with the potential impact of Democrats losing control of the U.S. Senate.
His is an intricate argument and not an easy sell.

Torricelli said Forrester's opposition to the government paying for poor women's abortions through Medicaid is a character defect.Clinton tried this approach. It didn't work.

Only in the DNC.......
I hope the "Sure I'm a con artist but he's a Republican" argument won't work in NJ.

Some Democrats are alarmed that control of the Senate has emerged as Torricelli's best issue. If this is Torricelli's "best issue," then he has effectively become the most pathetic candidate in the history of U.S. politics.
"I am a pile of sh!t who can't even pretend to be an ice cream sundae, but you should vote for me anyway because he's a Republican."
To: randita
So what is he saying, in politics character doesn't matter? Sorry Bob but to some voters it does.
Now if we could only reach them in Massachusetts...

Rumor has it that New Jersians are pretty gullible...

"That would put conservative Mississippi Sen. Trent Lott back in control of the Senate's agenda" That takes a vote in the Senate! If the Republicans take the Senate back there needs to be a letter writing campaign by ALL Freepers to elect a new and DIFFERENT leader!

He maintains his "mistakes in judgment" in dealings with one-time friend, now-convicted felon David Chang are mitigated by the virtues of his stance on social issues: the environment, education and gun control. Yes, and Hitler's "mistakes in judgement" were mitigated by the fact that he reduced unemployment and built a pretty nice road system.

"Character is a complex question"
Yes, but sometimes it is real easy to recognize a weasel.

If the Dems had an ounce of integrity, this guy would be making license plates with Traficant. Instead, they now have another albatross around their necks. Al Gore would be President if Clinton was removed from office. Keep it up Dems, if you want to keep benefitting Republican challengers. And count on Gray Davis to be the final nail in your liberal political coffin. Instead of holding him accountable, you would rather see California violently swing back toward the Republicans, just like the Bush administration is doing when contrasted with the Clinton debacle.
This is some good advice for my enemies, but they will probably ignore it.

Hey TORCH, how did you get the nickname of "THE CHINESE BAGMAN?" Could that have anything to do with the Democraps putting you in a leadership position (fund raising bagman)on your first day in the Bob and Billie Club (formerly called the U.S. Senate)?
Bill Bradley NEVER achieved a leadership position in his entire Senate career!

Torricelli is the next to last person I would want to have lecture me on character (the first being ole Slick Willie)!

Too many decades of NY polluting the water. It has turned their brains to mush, ripe for manipulation by the Dims.

"Character is a complex question"Doesn't that depend upon the meaning of the word "is"?

Democrats believe that leaning left innoculates you on ethical issues.
And there is plenty of evidence that it works.
It works even better when Repubs don't use the evidence when its gift wrapped and handed to them. The press isn't going to do their job for them. Repubs need to pound away on ethics. Pound away on Enron improprieties of the past decade. Pound away on campaign finance issues.
Repubs should own the campaign finance issue... not campaign finance "reform", which is a coverup masquerading as a law, but actual campaign finance crimes committed election after election.
But Repubs are forever intimidated on issues of criminality, fearing to denounce felonies for fear they might be accused of misdemeanors.

Today I started hearing Torrecelli radio ads paid for by "the working men and women of the AFL-CIO". They trumpet Torricelli's efforts to use money confiscated from America's working people to pay for "free prescription drugs" for every senior citizen. Some weird stuff, but no surprise that a slithering scumbag like Torricelli would be supported by America-hating scumbags like the AFL-CIO Stasi.
By the way, isn't there a date certain (thanks to CFR) after which these ads can no longer be run? Legally, I mean.

The Torch is toast, All of his mud slinging will not help him, The country has seen the damage people like Torricelli can do and we are tired of it. Only the most blind of the DemocRATS will support him. The Torch will lose as well as Carnahan and Tim Johnson. We will regain the control of the Senate and hold the House and the challenges we face as a nation will be addressed instead of being ignored for political purposes by the democRATS.
The DemocRATic party has stooped to its lowest levels with Terry McAuliffe calling the shots. Any Party that chooses a scumbag like McAuliffe to represent them as its chairman deserves nothing less than being powerless. The RATS are in big trouble and all the help from the media and their other eneblers like the Unions will not be able to change the comments or the behavior they displayed when the country needed unity more than ever. The comments made by Cynthia McKinney claiming that the President welcomed the attacks of 9/11 so he and his Father could make money off the military build up, along with the rediculous attack by Gephardt and Daschel asking "What did he know, and when did he know it" will be used against them three weeks prior to the election and they can not defend what they said and did.
That RATS are TOAST

Repubs need to pound away on ethics.Right. They need TV and radio ads out the wazoo because, like you said, the scumbag liberal newsrooms will do anything to protect their party's candidates. Those ads cannot dance around and be polite - - they must be cold and brutal. The future of the United States is at stake, and the Republicans better play the game that way.
To: pactolusghost
The DNC has been pushing their candidates that are in trouble to engage in class warfare. When this country starts demonizing people who become wealthy by legal means we are in trouble. I hope the President as well as all Republican candidates point out that socialism is a failed practice and when the democRATS start taking up the agenda of the Green party and their corperate hating leader Ralph Nader, it's time to cross over and vote for republicans who support the American Dream
