Charles 'Slappy' Barron: My Critics 'Got a Lot of Nerve'

New York City Councilman Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn) lashed out Thursday at critics who took umbrage at his remark during last Saturday's Washington, D.C., reparations rally, where he said he wanted to "go up to the closest white person and say, 'You can't understand this, it's a black thing' and then slap him, just for my mental health."

"I think the people who are upset got a lot of nerve," Barron told the Chicago Sun-Times. "What I said was rhetoric. But my ancestors were murdered and raped. And America doesn't even want to say I'm sorry or pay reparations."

To those who took offense at the anti-white comment Barron advised, "They need to get a life."

"It's like this: When I was a little boy, and the day was Sunday, my mother would say, 'Boy if you keep getting on my nerves, I'll knock you into Tuesday,' and that she 'brought me into the world, and she'll take me out.' That wasn't a threat to commit murder."

Since the speech, Barron revealed, "I have never had so many offers from white men for me to slap them."

Conrad Worrill, leader of the National Black United Front and one of the organizers of the reparations rally, defended Barron's slap-white-people remark to the Sun-Times.

"His statement was a symbolic affirmation of the way many black people feel," he told the paper. "There are a lot of people in their living rooms who, in private, would say they would like to slap some white person upside the head because they are angry."

On Sunday Barron chalked up his offensive outburst to "black hyperbole" and "oratorial(sic) improvision(sic)."

Despite the Brooklyn Democrat's position as a prominent New York City elected official, three out of four of the city's major daily newspapers have declined to cover his incendiary remark.

I wonder if he would feel the same "it was only hyperbole" if anyone else stated that? Hopefully, the tide has changed and more and more people will see through all of this drivel, speak out and NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!

We've got nerve and its just rhetoric, eh Charlie? I don't think you would think we were in our right minds if we said we needed to slap black men for our mental health!

"I think the people who are upset got a lot of nerve," Barron told the Chicago Sun-Times. "What I said was rhetoric. But my ancestors were murdered and raped. And America doesn't even want to say I'm sorry or pay reparations."

And when will blacks publically say they're sorry and pay reparations to whites for the rapes and murders of hundreds of thousands of our white family members and friends committed by blacks? Whites are already paying big time -- through the nose.

Okay, I'll rise to the bait. "There are a lot of City Councilmen that I'd like to slap upside the head. It would be good for my mental health." And you can quote me.

The only thing dumber than a union teacher in New York, Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, etc., is the average member of the City Council in those places. However, Charles "Slappy" Barron has earned his right to be the poster child for bad City Councilmen.

This is not a "white thing." This is a "Stupid is as stupid does" thing. If the shoe fits, Buckwheat, wear it.

This guy's got brass. You have to give him that.

There are some things one can't argue about, because they're postulates, not conclusions. If we grant Barron the assumption of sincerity, then he's decided that he's a victim and racial reparations are his just compensation as a matter of fixed premises, and nothing could possibly change his mind. So why argue with him? Ignore him if you can, shoot him if you must.

Of course, there's always the possibility that he's insincere, and this is all just tactical posturing. But in a world with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters and Johnnie Cochran in it, what's one more bloody-minded thug who's demanding to be bought off? Not news, I say.
