"Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States?"
Not now, not ever. Profile, detain and deport.

Never, never, never!

The last Amnesty encouraged an increased flow of illegals, any form of Amnesty at this time would have the same effect.
NO AMNESTY!

Any amnesty is just a huge welcome sign for more illegal aliens to try to scam their way into this nation. Same for giving in-state tuition breaks to illegal aliens, such as in California. You make things nice and convenient for these law breakers and millions more will come.
We have more than enough lower income people banging out plenty of children (mostly due to immigration) and don't need anymore....Unless we want to make this nation into a Brazil.

I'm with you Saber.......
The real question is what will the gop do.
They've abandoned their base and face a very real threat to their control.
If they determine that the hispanic vote can shift the balance in big cities, this amnesty idea will become reality.

Should all or some portion of the Illegal Aliens be granted an Amnesty and be thereby allowed to change their status and acquire legal residence in the United States? I'm against. They should go back and go threw the legal immigration channels...regarless of country of origin. Cutting in line just doesn't sound right.
To: Sabertooth
I'm against any illegal immigration, but until our country gets serious about keeping illegals out (and they could get serious if they reallywanted to, - wouldn't even need to put the army on the border), what are we supposed to do?
To: Sabertooth
I agree. Absotively, posalutely NO AMNESTY.

But what's your answer to the question?
To: Sabertooth
Every poll I have seen has said that Americans would like to see immigration levels reduced. Yet, our elected officials are falling all over each other to be nice to immigrant groups to get their vote.
While established Americans want a sane immigration policy, new immigrants and politicians want everyone to come.
Amnesty is a open door with a red carpet and a flashing neon sign saying "Welcome".
Americans are being played as saps.
I oppose any amnesty program.
If people come here illegally, they should know they will be held accountable.
I certainly don't want new citizens who have distain for the laws of my country.

No need whatsoever for amnesty.
Poll numbers indicate a shift to GOP in the Hispanic community, not to say that that is needed to oppose amnesty.
Amnesty, welfare, social programs, racial divisiveness are all RAT tactics, not needed in the GOP.
To: Sabertooth
Given every poll in the USofA is against it, I think FR vote totals, for and against will break along those same lines.
It's really an exercise in futility, because it becomes ever more apparent that only the ordinary American is expected to obey the laws of the land while D.C. plainly has "no controlling legal authority" over their actions.
We can vote in these polls until dooms day and they will be ignored unless and until, Americans make it a major hot button issue, and we have a limited amount of time to do that in.
Emails and faxes go ignored, phone calls may be somewhat better but I don't see it. Only one thing will make it an issue and that is a massive demonstration in D.C. Until then Free Trade will rule, a stupid idea in which we export nothing but jobs and import everything, especially third world masses both legal and illegal.
To: Sabertooth
No there should not be another amnesty of any kind. If they are here illegally they are criminals and should be deported immediately. I do not take a soft stand on this issue.
To: Sabertooth
Being a Texan, I quess I have differing views on this subject. In our central Texas area, hospitals are going broke trying to cover costs that illegals cannot or will not pay. My school taxes are going thru the roof trying to pay for all children in Texas, legal or not, to have an education. I am very offended by some remarks on FR about Hispanics. Texas was mostly hispanic before it was a Republic, so many hispanics were Texans before my people were. I have hispanic grandchildren. But, I do not support giving illegals of any nationality legal status of any kind. All should go thru the proper channels to become a citizen of America. And I strictly support scaling way back on the number of immigrants allowed into America.

My position: No amnesty -- a 5-year moratorium on imigration.
And you're hearing this from a latino.
