"As for those Oval Office floors, they were just redone during Bush's vacation last August. Even though a rug mostly fills the room, one White House regular recalled that the president noticed with his first step inside last year that the job wasn't up to snuff -- the wood had been incorrectly stained against the grain. "

Attention to detail and high standards. What a refreshing and welcome change.

Even though it is over a year, this reminds me of when the Reagans took over in 1981. I remember a story where it was reported that the White House looked like s**t, like white trash moved out. Probably the same with the Clintons.

perhaps, - but it stills sounds a bit excessive for the guy who makes $9.5/hr and walks on vinyl adhered squares - is our money being well spent or squandered?

Other major projects include replacing the $30,000 jogging track on the South Lawn that was custom-built in 1993 for former President Clinton, like his successor an avid runner.

Clinton? An avid runner? (Explorer89 chokes on food....) Do ya' think he could ever match that 20ish minute 3-mile that Bushie did a few weeks ago?? Or that 3:40 marathon W did while Governor?

I agree. GWB attention to details. That's why we will go in and do what we have to in Iraq in spite of what anyone else says. He is in charge and a true leader. Now...as for the running track and the words...AVID RUNNER...let's examine these two words. Main Entry: av·id Pronunciation: 'a-v&d Function: adjective Etymology: French or Latin; French avide, from Latin avidus, from avEre to desire, crave; akin to Welsh ewyllys desire, Old Irish con-oí he protects Date: 1769 1 : desirous to the point of greed : urgently eager : GREEDY 2 : characterized by enthusiasm and vigorous pursuit synonym see EAGER - av·id·ly adverb - av·id·ness noun Main Entry: front-run·ner Pronunciation: 'fr&nt-"r&-n&r Function: noun Date: 1914 1 : a contestant who runs best when in the lead 2 : a leading contestant in or as if in a rivalry or competition Now, who in theeeeeeee world could ever refer to Clinton as an Avid Runner???????????????? He used to jog and that's even a stretch. AVID RUNNER? I think NOT! Glad they are ripping up the track. I like the fact GWB works at sometimes at the Army base. No cameras there. Just a good workout. Thanks God for this leader of the free world.

Sorry for that big paragraph. I did copy and paste those two meanings from the dictionary but for some reason they came out runing all together. I must have done something wrong. Anyway, you all get the drift. :)

those projects are re-sanding the wood floors in the Oval Office

Wow, they really are serious about getting those pesky Klintoon stains off of the floor.

Does anybody know what is being put in it's place? Or is it being renovated? The article said Bush has been using it, so was just curious is all.
