Pretending immigration isn't an issue

The Republican National Committee's mail-order fund-raisers often contain a comprehensive multiple-choice survey so that prospective donors can give their opinions on topics of national importance. One issue, however, is conspicuously missing from the list: immigration.

The omission isn't an oversight; it's a deliberate policy. The National Republican Congressional Committee has been advising its candidates not to mention this issue in their speeches or campaign literature.

House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, D-Mo., gave Republicans the opportunity to seize this issue when he addressed a radical left-wing Hispanic group, The National Council of La Raza, in Miami on July 22.

He announced a Democratic Party plan to introduce legislation to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens.

Nothing is more unpopular with voters than amnesty (which Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.V., called "sheer lunacy"). If the powers that be in the Republican Party don't realize this, they are out-of-touch with the grass roots.

The shyness of the Republican Party and the Bush administration about immigration explains why they manifest a deafening silence about Rep. George Gekas's bill called Securing America's Future through Enforcement Reform. The Pennsylvania Republican's bill is completely in accord with public opinion polls, showing that the majority of the American people want government to reduce the number of legal immigrants, to stop the irresponsible issuance of visas, to deport illegal aliens and to use U.S. troops to guard our borders (instead of the borders of Eastern Europe).

Title I, called Securing the Border, would increase the number of INS investigators and enforcement personnel, lengthen criminal sentences for alien smuggling, beef up the Border Patrol and use U.S. military troops until the Border Patrol reaches full strength. It would stop granting visas in countries that refuse to cooperate in combating alien smuggling.

Title II, called Screening Aliens Seeking Admission, would tighten the visa program to reduce the risk of aliens using fraudulent passports, require in-person interviews before issuing all visas, and bar any alien who is a member of a terrorist group or supports terrorism. Most people don't understand why this isn't already the law.

Title III, called Tracking Aliens Present in the United States, would establish a comprehensive entry-exit control system with registration and fingerprinting (which the INS has promised for years but never implemented). At least 40 percent of illegal aliens are visa overstayers. Several of the 9/11 hijackers had overstayed their visas.

Title IV, called Removing Alien Terrorists, Criminals, and Human Rights Violators, would authorize the INS to deport any alien who was inadmissible in the first place or is suspected of being a terrorist. This title would reverse several court decisions that accord unreasonable "rights" to terrorists claiming asylum, and would prevent the courts from releasing criminal aliens into the community.

Title V, called Enhancing Enforcement of the Immigration and Nationality Act in the Interior, would protect Social Security cards against counterfeiting and fraudulent use. This title would increase the number of INS investigators, as repeatedly requested by the INS, and double the number of INS detention beds.

Title VI would eliminate excessive review and dilatory, abusive tactics by aliens in deportation proceedings. It would also exclude aliens who knowingly make a false asylum application.

Title VII would clean up the problem of voting by illegal aliens. It would require verification of citizenship for voters and applicants.

Title VIII, called Reforming Legal Immigration, would repeal the infamous Diversity Immigrant Program which admits 50,000 immigrants a year, mostly from the Third World, including countries that sponsor terrorism, and helped the Fourth of July LAX murderer win U.S. residency. It would reform the abuses in the refugee program and in the extended-family visa program, and reduce the number of legal immigrants by 20 percent.

This would still leave immigration nearly double the traditional level. The INS is unable to cope with its current backlog of 5 million applications.

Gekas, chairman of the Immigration Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee, will start hearings on his bill next month. He should then add one more section requiring the INS to screen out aliens with diseases, such as the West Nile virus, malaria, Chagas disease, intestinal parasites and tuberculosis.

The BBC reported that the current epidemic of the West Nile virus (a central African disease) was probably brought to America for the first time three years ago by an imported exotic bird. The Centers for Disease Control reported that 16,000 foreign birds passed unscreened for West Nile virus through JFK airport in 1999. Where are the environmentalists when we need them?

It's going to have to get alot worse before the sheeple wake up and by that time it will probably be too late. The third world is not here to share your culture they are here to destroy and devour it and assimilate you into their culture and not them into yours.

It's only hard if you don't want to bite the bullet and tell your voters that this scheme(SS) can't work.
We must remember that politicians absolutly HATE saying the word no.

Saber--the state of California was trying to make policy on something that is a federal issue. States can't do that. Period.

Wilson knew that 187 would (a) get HIM re-elected and (b) never stand up to the most cursory judicial review, saving him any real political heat over having to enforce it. The initiative's drafters didn't help any by failing to include a severability clause. If one element was thrown out, the entire thing would get tossed.

Please do not assume that Wilson actually gave a flying Monica about whether a Democrat or a Republican succeeded him.

What a great photo. Back when America was America and didn't cave into greedy ethnic groups that want to bring all their "frens" and compadres to America. Legal and Illegal. Back when we didn't call these lawbreakers "migrants" but called them their real name ..... ILLEGAL ALIENS!

How did Americans become so weak to allow these invaders into our house and raid our refrigerators? Suck off our welfare system and misplaced generosity?

Freedom! Thank you for the ping! I have been following this thread, since yesterday afternoon. "Arleigh" getting the Axe was a crock! There was ABSOULTELY NOTHING WRONG with what "Arleigh" posted. "IT WAS THE RAW TRUTH!!!" I will make my point. I'm behind you, Marine Inspector, JoeHadenuf and many others who will continue to speak out on what "ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION" is doing to this country & the CORRUPTION" that has allowed this to happen. If it comes to that day where all of us eventually get the Axe for speaking what we feel & because we are aware as to what's "REALLY GOING ON" so be it! I'm behind you guys 200%! And for those out there who want to twist my words around & call me a RACIST. Then go ahead, accuse me. I won't be losing any sleep over it. But, I will never back down nor refrain from what I have to say. Especially, if it's something that I truly believe in. I love my country! I'm just sick of people who come here & take us for granted, get what they want with our tax dollars & it's still not enough. Very ungrateful. And all of us have a right to be angry about that.

I'm glad you liked the photo DW. It was also meant to point out to certain parties that they frequently behave like little children with ad hominem attacks; there are FAR TOO MANY censorships by a clique/unjust bannings/deletions lately; and, as you point out, America had lost its innocence ... and we must mistakenly keep this issue swept under the rug. &;-)

I wish, as well, the little guy had his "trap door" open, to signify the crap that flies around here.

Today's GOP is as liberal as the DNC of 15 years ago. We hated the DNC then, so why not the GOP today?

Congratulations! You are very perceptive, and correct.

I can remember back when the Democrat Party was run by pro-American, anti-communist Liberals. After the 1968 Democrat Convention riots, the Leftist-Marxists began taking over the DNC. Tom Hayden, John Conyers, Hillary Clinton, and others began their political careers.

Over the years, the Democrat Leftists completely purged the old Liberals who came to the Republican Party and were known as "neoconservative."

The Left was never satisfied with just one party - we are now observing the systematic takeover of the Republican Party as well. The big difference now is that conservatives have nowhere to go.

There was a time not too long ago when Pat Buchanan's ideas were accepted in the Republican Party ... then they became "controversial" ... now Pat is demonized as "anti-semitic" "homophobic" "isolationationist" and "racist."

When are folks going to wake up to the fact that "The Stupid Party" is enabling a leadership far more calculating and purposefully -- albeit "pragmatically" -- evil than that two-bit, dopehead, rapist Clinton ever thought about being.

Big difference between being ruled by one's passions like a dog and crafting the policies of our destruction ... including the Legal Abortion and other "voluntary" population control measures they would have enforced had their "educational" efforts not met with such resounding success.

A Salute to the GOP

... uncompromising and have NO chance of ever getting ...

Guess you don't remember that is exactly what the Leftists told Republicans about Ronald Reagan in 1980, and Newt Gingrich in 1994.

Republicans win only when they show their principles and stand un-compromisingly on them.

It's the same leftist media that keeps saying it was wrong for the Republicans to support Prop 187, it killed them with the hispanic vote etc. How nice of the liberals to give Republicans advice. Prop 187 was a winner with the voters, including hispanics, but you'd never know it if you listen to the media.

I believe English is necessary, but I'm more comfortable with societal pressure and market forces pushing English than I am government fiat.

"Societal pressure" like the government printing things in many different languages? "Market forces" like hiring quotas?

This thread is part of the real "Societal pressure" that you mention. Societal pressure is when the people apply pressure to something they care about. The government is doing everything they can to thwart and undermine societal pressure to control illegal immigration. Clearly the Government doesn't care to promote unity by printing its various forms in english. Would that not be considered a "Societal pressure?

Exactly, and the ones who are calling him those names are:

the old Liberals who came to the Republican Party and were known as "neoconservative."

Good, perceptive post. Thanks.

I've been called everyname in the book since I got here last year. Some people just can't handle the truth.

Name-calling is all the pro-illegal immigration crowd is left with since facts and reason are not on their side. In following this issue closely on FR in the last year I have yet to read a cogent or persuasive argument by those supporting the party line on immigration. What I do see from them is a lot of name calling and half-baked arguments that get instantly obliterated by Freepers who understand the crisis of illegal immigration.

As I've mentioned before, it is interesting to note that the open borders/RINO/Neo-Con contingent on FR use exactly the same race baiting smears and demagoguery that the far left uses on the republican party to get republicans to go along with their socialist poison. And it works! Most republicans will do almost anything to avoid getting tabbed with the racist label. And this works because Courage, Leadership and Patriotism are in short supply in the Republican Party these days.

It’s no accident that the Republican Party earned the name The “Stupid” Party but along with Stupid I’d add Coward. This party better start listening to their base on issues like immigration and trade or their days in power are numbered.

Let me assure you that the environmentalists would be more than happy to see an immediate halt to the import of all exotic species (exotic meaning "non-native"). The list of noxious plants, animals, and micro-organisms that have been imported to the USA, both deliberately and accidentally, that have caused damage to American property, health, and lives is quite lengthy. The gypsy moth, Japanese beetles, Chestnut blight, and that boring beetle whose name I forget but that is killing trees in New York and Chicago come immedately to mind.

Environmentalists definitely spend time and money lobbying legislators to just this end; however, the government doesn't want to spend our money to do this, and the press doesn't think it's a sexy issue. So, you don't hear about it unless you're going to some effort to follow the issue.

Here in the Midwest, you can easily spend all your spring, summer, and fall weekends with environmental groups out in the field cutting up, digging up, and destroying infestations of purple loosestrife and buckthorn. There's a lot of comments here in FR criticizing environmentalists, but there's plenty of them that don't spend their time writing letters to newspapers and legislators, they're out in the field actually working.

I also think that it is time for real immigration reform. This includes a ten year moratorium, the elimination of the "Anchor Baby Amenment", the establishment of English as the National Language in Government, the revoking of welfare among illegals, and the enforcement and prosecution against those employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. Furthermore, immigration should be reformed as to where newcomers do not exceed 75,000-100,000 per year, and at least eighty percent should come from the countries of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

Yes, these measures are desperately needed if America is going to retain its sovereignty in the decades ahead.

Let's face the facts.

The problem is not immigration.

The problem is non-European immigration.

Though, I can't really bellyache about immigrants from East Asia, either.
