Qatar News Agency | 8/19/02

AMMAN, Aug. 17, 2002 (QNA via COMTEX) -- Dr. Oasma Al Baz, political advisor to the Egyptian president, said Egypt will not allow passage through the Suez Canal of US ships headed to strike Iraq.

In statements published here Saturday he added Egypt rejects any military operation against Iraq, its territorial unity, independence and safety of Iraqi people, adding any military attack on Iraq represents a vary dangerous step endangering the security of the region.

Dr. Al Baz said the question of UN weapons inspectors is an issue which concerns the UN and the Security Council and not Washington and the US has no right to take any military action against Iraq nor has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of another country and impose a set-up of new leadership on its people.

Sooner or later we are going to have an all out war with the Islamists in the Middle East

Uh, we are at war with Islamists. Don't let President Bush fool you with "Islam is a peaceful religion." I know that he knows the truth (I know) and I believe he lied to keep his options of using Islamic states for help and not look hypocritical at home. But we are at war. Ask any Egyptian on the street or in Saudi Arabia. Most likely they will tell you that we are at war with them, regardless of what their rules say.

The only time Egypt may deny a ship the use of the canal is when the ship belongs to a nation actually at war with Egypt

Well, if this story is true, then Egypt is making herself at war with America and that is not so far fetched. Her peasants are bringing the Mubarak regime to the point of collapse wanting to go to war with us. Mubarak may have to appease them sooner than later.

But you know what this story really makes me realize is that since President Bush has said, You are with us or against us, I don't know of any country shouting, "We are against you." It would actually be refreshing to see Egypt try to sink our carrier in the canal so we can unleash true hell on Cairo from a silo in Montana. That would really make us feel a bit more "really" at war here.

What were YOU doing on September 11?

On September 11th, my daughter called me from work and said that two planes flew into the trade towers. I thought for sure she was kidding me. Then she told me the Pentagon was attacked. I said, "Oh shit!" I slammed the phone down and woke up. The Pentagon made me think (sorry, folks) Militias were rising up against the government. Then as I woke up further, I realized they would never have attacked the trade towers. We turned on the radio at that point.

A little while later, I was driving down the road and stopped in the middle of the street where two cops regularly sit to watch traffic. I wound down my window and one of the cops did likewise. Not having any clue why I suddenly stopped near their patrol car, I said, "Did you hear about the World Trade Center?" He shook his head no. I said, "Turn on your radio." They both looked at me for a few seconds and then decided I wasn't joking and proceeded to turn on the radio.

Money is not the issue

Pull 2 billion dollars back from this third world, fly trap with piled rocks and watch how fast it becomes one.

Out of curiosity, what is Egypt going to do? Fire at a nuclear armed U.S. warship?

Methinks Egypt should be quiet, otherwise we'll pull the $4 billion in aid and give them a glass parking lot instead.

NO BLOOD for OIL- Their proposals and solutions are not congruent.

There is a supply-side health crises in most of the world, yet we don't declare war on hospitals or medical students.

I hope you see my moral point: Just because a resource is scarce (diamonds, gold, uranium, etc) doesn't compel us to make war over it. The problem is that there is a CARTEL that exists ABOVE the countries (and OPEC) themselves -- it is thier interests we are shedding blood for.

Now one might do the 'moral' math and say: the death of X many US troops and Y many amaments in exchange for $1.80/gal gas price is a 'deal' -- but what about that durn overhead huh (terrorism, loss of liberty and security and potential WWIII).

At least be honest with ourselves and admit this is "our" doing and has always been:

The New U.S. -British Oil Imperialism

Its IMMORAL and UNNECCESSARY. Get it? =)

Do you really think the USA would actually send our own citizens to die for some cartel JUST for oil?? I don't think so. That is such a weak argument.

Follow the money. Everytime there is a war fever it is driven by a psuedo-reason 'Saddam is evil', but the money and influence, which funds the politics and media come from the oil interests.

Ask yourself why, given that oil drives the geopolitical scene, is there no media investigation of the mechanisms of influence.

Saddam, or whomever, has to play in the free market as well -- the danger is that our continual dicking around with these countries will align them ALL against us in an embargo like the 70's, as well as the instability/destruction that is detrimental to price.

Creation of these price pressures do not benifit 'us'.

The real main point is this: If 'we' accept the 'defence' techniques of our dependency, we have forgone our morality -- it is not a 'free market' it is thuggary. Troops in those countries are analogous to waving a gun around while you 'bargain' with a merchant.

By forgoing our morality, we have no valid claim of outrage when the results of such practices culminate in a 911 or the threat of terrorism.

Think of how a terrorist thinks, these people have a different religion, and culture, a value system that holds PRINCIPLES above human life. When the terrorist does his suicidal act, he is appealing to the court of God and is willing to take his judgement there.

What the terrorist sees is a nation that claims to uphold freedom and human dignity, but a nation that is so materialistic and wasteful that it causes war among his people and installs regimes who are at the beck and call of oil power, while none of this oil money is benifiting the people, and while the US doesnt give a damn about that end of things. Such duplicity and lies and war power infuriate a people who have strong religious bond to principle.

This creates the 'hate America' culture. Wouldn't you feel the same way if Russia or China were exploiting the US and its resources by manipulating our government and formenting war?

We may not agree with thier techniques, but I think we have a lot to learn from them about principle and what it means, we sell out our principle when it is profitable or when holding onto it is costly. Abandoning principle, especially in foreign policy, was our nations big mistake.
