Abortion is emerging as strong but silent issue in Talent-Carnahan race

As Sen. Jean Carnahan launched her "Freedom, Faith and Family" bus tour from Forest Park last week, police surrounded about a dozen protesters waving placards of aborted fetuses.

Although Missouri Right to Life says it didn't organize those pickets, leaders of the state's largest anti-abortion group say the U.S. Senate race will figure prominently in its activities this fall.

My guess is that abortion, or more precisely, Senate approval/disapproval of the Federal judges and Supreme Court Justices who will rule on abortion issues, is the issue in this race.

Can someone please tell me exactly how she was grandfathered into her husband's senate seat legally?

John Ashcroft didn't mount a constitutional challenge; he conceded and Jean Carnahan was sworn in. He could have fought her swearing in, but didn't, and is now Attorney General (which is probably better in the long run for the nation.)

I'm thinking the Republican's controlling the Senate would have been a better situation for America.

We can't. SHe was put on the ballot and sworn in after her husband's death and there were serious legal issues regarding the propriety of doing either. Ashcroft, however, thought it inappropriate/unethical under the circumstances to challenge the election results in court.

Ashcroft took the high road based upon principle and his own moral compass. Algore put the nation through 37 days of silliness to fight tooth and nail. Yet the media dumps on Ashcroft. Amazing . .

Carnahan said in an interview that she also opposes partial-birth abortion, but that she - unlike Talent - wants any ban to contain exemptions to protect the life or the health of the mother.

Mrs. Carnahan, please name one situation when a partial-birth abortion is the only way or best way to save a mother's life.

I bet she can't do it - because there are not any such situations. Partial-birth abortion is a "mid-to-late term" procedure. If continuing a pregnancy is dangerous to the mother, the pregnancy can be ended by delivering the baby. The baby can then be taken to the NICU where every attempt will be made to save it. Killing the baby during delivery does absolutely nothing to enhance the mother's health.

Jean Carnahan is also ultraleft on gun issues.

Heat up every local talk show in the state - where you don't waste time preaching to the choir and aren't "screened" (censored) - with this fact, particularly outside the two big cities.

Have lots of callers who are women who've been stalked by ex-husbands in spite of "restraining orders" - tearfully saying that their situations are why Missouri needs the CCW she was against.

Scandals of antigun politicians - from Manhattan to Kalifornia!
