Tomorrow the conference continues in earnest as performance enhancing presentations occur all day.  Tomorrow evening we'll be attending the FRiva Las Vegas Dinner and Awards presentation.

We're looking forward to a great conference.  More photos and reports to follow.

Here are two shots of FreeRepublic Network members as they met for dinner on Thursday evening.

Pictured in no particular order are Bob_J, Diotima, Diotima's mother, DoughtyOne, DoughtyToo, Skeet, Interesting Times and The Shrew.

Well I wish you were here too. We are having a blast. Laura's presentation was very good. She spoke for about an hour, then fielded questions for another forty minutes or so. Excellent. See the next post linked at the bottom of this thread.

Most of us had been working hard to make FRiva a success. I got two hours sleep on Thursday night, after printing out the name tags. Two hours later I was packing for the trip. Like everyone else, I have a private life too. Three cameras, two computers, flash memory cards, cables expansion ports, adapters, chargers, flash memory readers, batteries, cell phones, more chargers, power supplies, telephone cords... Get the picture?

Your looking at a photo that was taken about 9:30 p.m. after most of us spending three to seven hours travel time to the event. You're lucky we weren't all face down in our plates, let alone smiling.

BobJ: "Hmmm....I had a mustache when I started this meal. But that's OK, Dio's playing footsie with me"
Dio's mom: "Gross. There's hair on this table leg".

So, is this what passes for intelligent commentary where you're from?

At least we don't use prepositions at the end of sentences where I live at.

So, being a grammer cop is sufficient cover for your boorishness?

Please!

You owe Diotima, Bob and Dio's mom an apology, but I'll bet you don't have the stones to own up to it!

Alright, that's enough, we're semi-jealous that we couldn't make it this year.Let's all wish a good-time/CONSTRUCTIVE meeting for our fellow Freepers

Matt Lewis from the Leadership Institute kicked off the sessions by describing what he calls the "Galahad Syndrome" -- the belief some conservatives have that we'll win because our ideas are better and our hearts are pure. Then he gave an excellent presentation of the art of realpolitik or as he calls it "political technology." Politicians, he points out, respond not to rational argument, but to (political) pleasure and pain. Lots of knowing nods from the attendees...

Chuck Muth, the new Executive Director of the American Conservative Union suggested that Republicans lose lots of elections not because they have bad candidates, but because they run lousy campaigns. He made some crisp suggestions for improvement. Chuck then reviewed the effectiveness of various communication methods. Since he's been running an email list for years he understands the power of the Net. Chuck sees email as pretty much worthless for influencing politicians, good for keeping the faithful informed, but terrific for bombarding bureaucrats if you can track down their email addresses. Sinister smiles from the audience... For contacting politicians Chuck ranks phone calls as most effective since Congressional offices keep tallies, followed by postcards and faxes.

Matt's back on now, talking about communication techniques, and how to frame the debate on your terms...
