LOS ANGELES For many Americans, "fishing" conjures up images of a quiet lake or gentle stream with man and nature at peace.
But not everybody sees it that way.
"We're trying to get fishing banned in all state parks," PETAs Bruce Friedrich said.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says fishing is a violent and cruel sport that victimizes the innocent inhabitants of the nation's waterways. They've initiated a campaign demanding states ban the time-honored sport.
"They have the capacity to feel pain. They have a capacity to suffer," Friedrich said. "For reasons that really defy logic, we allow people to spend their afternoon impaling them on hooks."
Fisherman have cast their own barbs.
"They eat each other and they die," fisherman Anthony Young said. "Is that cruelty?"
Fishing is not permitted in state parks in about half of the states, but none of the rest have taken PETA's bait. At least nine, including California and Washington, have said "no."

OH PLEASE!!Somehow, the phrase Get A Life have no meaning to the PETA crowd. And you wonder why the majority of Americans consider PETA some flakey, fringe group. (shaking head)

Someone needs to setup a group specifically designed to oppose PETA on everything @ every turn. I'd make a contribution.

Somehow I suspect that the PETA people identify with cold fish. Lets gut'm and fry'm!

Just one question;
I just got through re-cleaning my rifles again. When is deer season starting in Florida again, and how many PETAdeers will be wearing orange vests this time???? LOL.
To: RayChuang88
My parents live in South Dakota and said that during the big Sturgis bike rally last week that PETA was up there actually trying to get the bikers to not wear leather!!!!

Their underlying problem is their Worldview: human beings are only the most evolved, complex animal in the world. We are no better than the fish - the fish were not created to provide food for us...they are just part of the same animal world that we are. This is one of the underlying problems with the Philosophy of Evolution (notice I didn't say science.) Science is observable, etc...philosophy is a belief system - and theirs does not comport with reality!
To: LiteKeeper
I agree and would add that the hypocrisy of that belief in ridiculous. If humans are nothing more than the most evolved animal and presuming survival of the fittest then shouldn't total domination and even extermination of other species be completely natural and acceptable?
To: RayChuang88
"They have the capacity to feel pain. They have a capacity to suffer," Friedrich said.Yes we do....so please stop talking.
To: Texas_Jarhead
We need to ignore PETA. They compose, maybe, just maybe, .01% of the entire population of this country. They get press because they are anti American, and anti capitalism, and they are stupid enough to be sensational. That's a BadaBing for the socialist/communist/liberal press.
My next really good beer phart will be dedicated to these "people"! Wait for it.................here it comes!!!

Science is observable, etc...philosophy is a belief system - and theirs does not comport with reality! Whether you are a Creationist or believe in evolution, PETA is wrong. I have incisor and canine teeth for a reason. Either God or 'mother earth' put them there, but it was for the same reason -- to rip apart the flesh of lesser animals.

"They have the capacity to feel pain. They have a capacity to suffer," They also have the capacity to eat each other alive.

YES!

"They have the capacity to feel pain. They have a capacity to suffer," Friedrich said. "For reasons that really defy logic, we allow people to spend their afternoon impaling them on hooks." To be honest, I think being "impaled" by a hook is the least of the fish's problems. Being eviscerated by my fillet knife might be a worse fate.
"Our God-given right as Americans is to fish the rivers and streams," Kevin Hanson said. "It's where memories are built."
Not only that, it's where those tasty fish are as well.
"Everyone wants to get in everyone else's business but their own," Young said. "Leave me alone. Let me enjoy my fishing."
Amen to that.

PETA hides behind the guise of ethical animal stuff
their real agenda is to grab as much land as possible however possible in their EURO grab...Meaning forget
sovernty(sp)......nothing more....oh sure the lessers
believe ...That is why Jerry Springer made it.

I say lets go after all the other fish and wildlife predators who kill and eat other animals. Let's teach them to go veggie. I can just see Yogi reaching into a pic-a-nic basket for a carrot. Yummy!

"Fishing is not permitted in state parks in about half of the states..."
No one is addressing this statement. Is fishing NOT PERMITTED in state parks in approx 25 states because of Peta, or is it for some other reason? I'm curious.

Shouldn't half-naked, good-looking girls be involved with this?

Shouldn't half-naked, good-looking girls be involved with this?
Not with the PETA crowd, they're just the stick thin, Pilsbury dough boy colored, patchouli oil soaked chicks. And if they aren't, they're cheating, sneaking a burger here and a strip of jerky there...
To: Axenolith
Actually, two of the three PETA girls I've known were hot as tar.
