A letter discovered over the weekend at a makeshift memorial for Eric B. Taylor, the 31-year-old Massillon patrolman killed in a shootout Friday night, defends his killer and predicts that more police officers will die in traffic stops.
Tell it to Matthews' crowd, that's what THEY call themselves. I agree that it's outrageous.
Besides, the management frowns on changing titles of published articles. So it can't be helped.
"Whence is that knocking?
How is't with me, when every noise appals me?
What hands are here? ha! they pluck out mine eyes.
Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood
Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather
The multitudinous seas in incarnadine,
Making the green one red.
The solution is easy. We need to renounce and condemn the anarcho-loons, those who claim that traffic stops are a 'constitutional crisis,' those who make light of murder, those who characterize the death of Mr. Matthews as merely the result of speeding, those who claim it could have happened to anyone, those who insinuate that the police killed their own. These militia nutcase types and political Luddites have no good business bringing their mental illness here to FR.
What's wrong with just using "cop-killer" or "criminal?"
It seems like someone here has an agenda that is inconsistent with the mission of this web site, by intentionally making a association between Constitutionalists and paranoid homicidal nutcases.
The Constitutionalist - who are the main characters in these stories - are the ones who keep telling our community that they ARE Constitutionalist. They want everyone to know who they are and what they stand for...it is not DUish...it is just foolish of them to justify and defend a killing by saying they are Constitutionalist.
Your beef would be with them...not the stories that are reporting what they are saying and doing.
Well said, CJ.
Well said, CJ.
As someone stated, Jim Jones used and hijacked the Bible for his nefarious deeds, but we don't condemn the Bible on that account. If Mr. Matthews and his small but vocal group of militia nutcases want to call themselves Constitutionalists then it is up to us who truly honor the Constitution to condemn them in no uncertain terms. I have seen a lot of good people here on FR condemn his actions, but I have seen a lot of loons express a dirty message of pro-insurrection and conspiracy theories, which we do not need.
Have you read these threads yet? I don't want to call Matthews anything but a vicious murderer, but yet there are friends of his in Ohio who call themselves "Constitutionalists"; one leaves this disgusting blame-the-victim letter at the dead policeman's memorial for his friends and neighbors to read, another one tells a reporter that "Officer Taylor deserved to die" before her husband (a member of Matthews' Constitutional study-group) could tell her to shut her mouth.
They are the ones giving Constitutionalists a bad name, not the articles that appear here.

The site owner has already posted on this thread; he could have nuked it if he thought it didn't belong here.
By any chance, are you from Mount Gilead?
Perhaps you'd like to take a look at who is associating themselves with the cop-killing paranoid homicidal nutcase:
Have a look here, for instance.
Read through it and see who is trying to explain away Matthews' actions, who is making excuses and accusing the cops of lying and covering up. Read it for yourself. The ones who were sticking up for Matthews are the ones who are making the association between real constitutional defenders and nutbirds like Matthews.
If all FReepers would just cut this Matthews guy loose, admit that he was a murderous loon, quit trying to make excuses for him, and not condone any other loons' highjacking the Constitution like Matthews did, we'd all be better off.
And I think the last thing FR should do is sweep this under the rug, considering...Now THAT would look bad.
Yes. Be aware these are the same loons who claimed the WTC attack was caused not by terrorists who flew planes into buildings, but by the Federal government's policies. They are ideologues, not patriots. They have more in common with Marx and Lenin and Kropotkin than with Washington and Jefferson and Thoreau.
You are more uncomfortable about what the press reports on than you are about what cop-killers and their supporters use as their label? Get lost.
When I posted the first story...I did it because I knew freepers would pray for the police officer's family.
Later in the afternoon, I logged on to FreeRepublic...and was shocked to see all of the responses...then as I read the responses...I was surprised to see the turn that the story took.
I wasn't surprised to see that freepers were praying for the family of the dead police officer. There are so many wonderful people on FreeRepublic.
