Nobel Winner Says Saudis Want Islam Dominance Tue Aug 13,10:55 AM ET

BERLIN (Reuters) - Nobel laureate V.S. Naipaul has launched a virulent attack on Saudi Arabia, accusing the conservative Gulf kingdom of trying to lead Islam to world domination.

Naipaul, 69, was awarded the Nobel literature prize last year amid fierce criticism from Muslim groups riled by his frequent barbs.

He told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper that the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States were a sign of Saudi Arabia's desire to convert the world to Islam.

Most of the suicide hijackers who rammed planes into New York and Washington were from Saudi Arabia, an oil-rich ally of the United States.

"I think that the driving force is Saudi Arabia, and I think something has to be done sooner or later," Naipaul said in remarks published Tuesday.

He said Saudi money had funded Muslims in conflicts with non-Muslims in places like the Philippines and Bosnia.

Trinidad-born Naipaul, a descendant of Hindu immigrants from northern India, says he considers all religions a scourge on humanity.

Naipaul, who has lived in Britain since the 1950s, has often courted controversy during his 50-year career as a writer.

His non-fiction works include "Among the Believers: an Islamic Journey," published in 1981 and criticized by some Muslim readers as a narrow and selective vision of Islam.

The 48-nation Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization slammed the Nobel Academy last year, saying it had adopted "as a position hostile to Islam" in selecting Naipaul as its winner.

The group accused the writer of willfully distorting realities and facts of religion, history and civilization.

It took a Nobel laureate to point this out? I guess if it didnt come from an "expert", no one would believe it.

Oh, I think it is known. First things first, though. Like Sodamn Insane. Then, in due course, Saudi Arabia, which I believe that W is planning for--think Russian oil and ANWR (the latter, if we get the Senate back)....

I think the issue is their views and how of course they must derive them from the anthropomorphic religion of Islam comparing itself to Christianity and Judaism.

no one would believe it.

Sad story is not enough believe it and it may be too late. I figure that the providences of the old Soviet Union is a spiritual vacuum and Europe sucks anyway. Given the right elements, rad Islam could spred like a brushfire.

I think most religions are like a power tool with the power switch and safety guard disabled. They can accomplish a lot, but it's really easy to get them to wreck the whole project.

Whatever their idiot dreams, since the Saudis' only asset is oil and since they've always needed Americans to develop it and pump even the oil out for them, I don't suspect that they have a chance of world domination. An alliance of house cats is more likely to achieve it -- NOT!!!

It bears regular repeating that the Saudis provide the following to Al-Quaida:

Leadership
Funding
Personnel
Ideology
Indoctrination (Madrassas)
Escape Assistance

Every component of Al-Quaida directly originates from Saudi Arabia.

One scourge at a time, please. For now, islam is quite enough to contend with. But of course, a poster mouthing drivel such as this:

Powell is a needed voice of restraint, prudence, and realism

Would also be expected to get his panties in a knot when someone gets mean towards the peaceful muslims, no? Why don't you fly your green rag, "Wright"?

That phrase was taken out of context from his book. "Among the Believers: an Islamic Journey,".

Naipaul journied from Iran to Indonesia,Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. The book reveals the Islamic culture for what he sees as a stifling corrupt ideology, where to challenge the Government is to challenge God.

If this book was chosen by UNC instead of the Koran lovefest manual then true debate could ensue.

Naipaul has been very outspoken in his criticism of Muslims in general. Since he is also an award winning author, it makes him an embarrassment to the other literati.
