Marchetta Burlingham lives on the other side of the country from Delaware, in Blaine, Wash.
But when a Delaware Republican she'd never heard of - and whose name she can't recall - sent a letter asking for a campaign contribution, she promptly sent a check for $300.

Without a doubt that deserves repeating.
The article itself may be resonably objective, by News Journal standards, but there is one reason and one reason only that it was printed on the front page - to rally round the Biden troops.
I don't know, consider the following:
It's hard to imagine opponents of Democrat Tom Carper or Republican Mike Castle having so much success with a national direct mail campaign. The two men, though well known to Delawareans, are unknowns nationally. Both also take moderate stands on most issues.Characterizing Biden as moderate, even by implication only, is not objective IMHO.
Unlike in 2000, there is no major Green Party candidate at the national level. No doubt, Nader took votes from Gore, but he also brought in new voters. It shouldn't surprise us that those people voted (D) farther down the ticket.
The huge level of support for the President could really spell trouble for the Dims. We have to hope that it will. Even a portion of the Dim base approves of the President.
The R's have some attractive well-known candidates in many hi-profile races.
Finally, the Dims aren't doing anything positive to be able to brag about.
You're right it's not - but compared to the usual biden-butt kissing the NJ does, it is very objective.
With that said, I didn't get same impression as you. I took that particular sentence to have nothing to do with Biden, just about the other 2.
The NJ, while cheerleaders for Carper and Castle, often take a dim view of Carper's moderate stances on issues. They don't criticize Castle as much, because as a Republican, he is the closer to what they want than not.
