Informal Poll: Should Jim Robinson make money from FR?
Today, don't ask me to be more specific.. | Jhoffa_X

Posted on 08/06/2002 4:02:40 PM PDT by Jhoffa_

I am sick of the whining about FR's finances.

Free Republic has become the Rush Limbaugh of the internet and all this complaining about who is doing what and profiting thus is making me Ill. It's a circular argument and I am tired of it.

Real Conservatives reward success. We honor it.

As a final end to this:

Would you oppose or favor Mr. Robinson making a profit from FR.

No. Not a chance.
But, it's always been my understanding that if he operates the forum in a for profit manner, the leagal ramifications would be (how to exress it) quite complicated.

Solution? He should write a book.
Can you imagine that??? WOW!!!!!!!!

Are some going to start eating their own??

I will never be a participant in that and always look for opinions from all.

If FR ever censors in a way I can not accept I would be gone.

Has never happened in my own experience and hopefully never will.

Agreed, they certainly don't work for free.

But to the issue at hand, yea or nay?

It's not our call to make. It's his site. He can do what he wants with it.

I assume your referring to self-proclaimed "libertarians" who don't respect Mr. Robinson's right to run his website as he sees fit.

Good point, and a particularly bombastic freeper comes to mind (you know of whom I'm talking about - but as they say on stock BBs, do your own DD).

Here's a dude who thinks that he can say whatever he wants because he has donated in the past (no concept of property rights), and who screams "censorship" whenever he gets temporarily banned (no concept of what censorship is).

I don't care for your whining either, but if someone is getting money, then he should get some.

Being a non-profit charity doesn't mean that reasonable salaries can be paid. But it does mean that "profits" cannot be distribured.

I run a non-profit dog rescue charity. Although I spend at least 40 hours a week on the charity work, I don't take a salary---we would go broke if I did.

However, if we had sufficient funding, I wouldn't be opposed to receiving some compensation for my work. I just don't see it as receiving "profits."

Opps.

Meant to say:

"Being a non-profit charity doesn't mean that reasonable salaries CAN'T be paid."

I see no reason why JimRob should not make as much money as Rush. I'd be sending some if I was gainfully employed at the moment

Wouldn't bother me any as long as I don't have to look at a bunch of ads or moderate opinions so as not to irritate advertisers. parsy.
