Ding! Dong! The Times is Dead
Conversations with Trentino ^ | August 5, 2002 | Trentino

Posted on 08/05/2002 3:50:30 PM PDT by Davis

I'm referring to The New York Times, the Gray Lady of West 43rd Street, the Newspaper of Record, that one, yes.

Of course, it's still publishing every day, a huge newspaper, indeed, whole Canadian forests are sacrificed for Classifieds alone. On Sunday, even bigger, a veritable Nadler of a newspaper. Understand, I'm not predicting the demise of the NYTimes. I am declaring it to be present fact, the Times is dead...more

The Sunday Slimes is indeed Nadleresque......obese, leftist, and expensive to buy [off].

Times editorials have been unreadable for years. I mean, I can't read them, they're sloppy, condescending and infuriating all at once. Their buried assumptions are never made clear--for good reason. Without significant exception, Times editorials are clueless and hopeless iterations of Leftist cliches, spongy and mealy-mouthed.

Doesn't the Times have a token conservative editorialist? Is it William Safire? Anyway, I can't imagine many jobs worse than being a bright conservative working at a rag like the Times.

Good movie that pokes fun at the NYT is The Paper starring Michael Keaton, Robert Duvall and Glenn Close. The protagonist, Henry Hackett (Keaton) is Metro Editor of the fictional New York Sun (I'm guessing it's supposed to be the New York Post), and - being pushed all along by his pregnant wife and wife's family - is vying for a slot at the Times. He steals a juicy news bit from his prospective boss, thereby blowing his chances - nevertheless realizing he'd never want to work at such a prissy, stuffy place anyway.

Excellent rental...

I found this "Conversations with Trentino" website on FR a couple of weeks back- I thought it was excellent, and have read the archives. Does anyone know who the author is, and if he has anything in print?

I agree with you. This website is the best I've encountered in a while, which is why I post some of his stuff here. I have communicated with him at this address..
atrentino@atrentino.com Try it, he is usually quite prompt with answers and will probably be able to fill in the blanks.

Times prints nothing that did not come from the DNC fax line.
