Sanchez calls for inquiry into Perry interview of judge
Jurist says job bid, husband's backing of ad not connected

Staff and Wire Reports
Democratic nominee Tony Sanchez has called for an investigation into a report that a Houston lawyer offered public support of Gov. Rick Perry's campaign on the same day the man's wife was interviewed by the governor for a job.
Dan Hedges met with reporters Monday to back Mr. Perry's ad linking Mr. Sanchez to Mexican drug dealers.
The Perry campaign said there was no connection between Mr. Hedges' efforts on Mr. Perry's behalf and Appeals Court Judge Adele Hedges' interview for a promotion to chief justice of the 1st Court of Appeals on the same day, also in Austin.
Responding to a report in The Dallas Morning News, Mr. Sanchez said Saturday that the timing was more than coincidence.
"We need to have this investigation as soon as possible by the appropriate authorities," he said after speaking in Irving at the state convention of the Fraternal Order of Police. "The selling of a judicial appointment for political favors is a very, very big deal."
Mr. Sanchez said he will not meet with state or federal authorities to discuss the issue but hopes authorities will inquire whether Mr. Perry abused his position as governor.
Judge Hedges has served on the 1st Court of Appeals in Houston for 10 years.
"There was no quid pro quo," she said Saturday from her Houston home. "It was convenient for us to go up together. It is so far-fetched, it didn't even occur to me" that the timing would be questioned.
Mr. Hedges, a U.S. attorney in Houston when millions in drug money was laundered through the Sanchez family's Tesoro Savings and Loan of Laredo 20 years ago, went to Austin on Mr. Perry's behalf.
The Perry ad contends that Mr. Sanchez knowingly allowed drug laundering to occur. Mr. Sanchez has denied the charge.
"I am running ads talking about my opponent's record. I am not lying like he's been lying," Mr. Sanchez said in his speech.
Saturday night, the police organization endorsed Mr. Sanchez. The group also endorsed Democrat John Sharp over Republican David Dewhurst for lieutenant governor, Republican John Cornyn over Democrat Ron Kirk for U.S. Senate and Republican Greg Abbott over Democrat Kirk Watson for attorney general.

Sorry, folks. I even tested that picture post and it
worked. I don't know why it didn't work in my article.

Some choice the voters are being given, looks like you could count the honest politicans in this country on the fingers of one hand after a serious chain saw accident.

It hardly looks like a crime that some guy offered public support of Perry and his wife interviewed for a job. Not compared with having drug cartels bringing suitcases full of money to be laundered by your business. Perry should use the Sanchez excuse ---he should say he didn't know the lawyer offered public support ---like Sanchez claiming that he didn't know where all that millions of dollars were coming from.

I quit taking the Dallas Morning News years ago. It has taken a sharper left than the NYT. Look for them to continue taking shots at the Repubs until after the election. Perry or Sanchez are trouble for Texas. Anyone wanna bet that Texas will have an income tax soon? Perry is like Bush "He never met a bill he did'nt like". This is going to be one nasty election season.

I'm voting for Perry. Sanchez is bad news and I haven't even thought about
voting for him.

At one point, (not that I would have voted for him,) I thought Sanchez had good ads going for him. He projected a calm, grandfatherly image but his true personna has been revealed and not only is he a typical liberal democrat, he's even worse!
I do think perhaps Perry has made a blunder with the drug money ad, but then.. maybe it will work better than I think it will.

I do think perhaps Perry has made a blunder with the drug money ad, but then.. maybe it will work better than I think it will. I don't. I think it's the most brilliant ad I've ever seen. It even features Sanchez saying "I have no problem with the way we responded to the issue."
It's devastating. I'll bet Sanchez is down another five points in the next poll.
The Perry ad reinforces the idea that's been out there ever since Sanchez announced: that he's a crook.

Honestly, I messed that unless you mean when he said "I have no problem with the way we responded to the issue."
I will have to pay more attention to these ads.

I don't think the ad will hurt. It certainly won't affect how I vote (for Perry, of course). I know that I was NOT aware of Sanchez's tainted S&L background. I bet there were a LOT of Texans that weren't and those folks in that group that were thinkin' of voting for Sanchez might be swayed, I think, imho.......
Where'd all this money come from, Mr. Sanchez?
Sanchez: Just keep countin', Babe ! hehehe

"Some choice the voters are being given, looks like you could count the honest politicans in this country on the fingers of one hand after a serious chain saw accident."What can you expect when they are 90% lawyers? When it comes to makeing laws or enforceing laws a lawyer has an automatic conflict of interest because they are to busy figureing how to keep a minimum of 30% of all money involved.
