Registered Republicans and Independent conservatives need to turn out in force, August 6th in Kansas Primary Election, especially in the 3rd Congressional District.
The so-called Moderate Republican groups such as GOP Club of Johnson County, Mainstream Coalition; Johnson County Republicans for Education and other so-called left leaning groups are attempting to stack the deck against conservative candidates. These groups are aided and abetted by well known liberals such as Governor Bill Graves; former Senator Nancy Landon Kassebaum; former U. S. Representative Jan Meyers; Senator Pat Roberts; The Kansas City Star; the Topeka Capitol Journal; and the Wichita Eagle.
The above named newspapers have endorsed all of the liberals running and refer to the conservative candidates as "Radical Right", "Conservative supported by extremist groups and against public education.
One must conclude that this election is the most important of a decade because of the really big money pouring in to mailings, radio and television ads; and computer generated phone calls.
If candidate Jeff Colyer wins the Republican nomination for the 3rd District, Democrat Dennis Moore will have a very tough time holding on to the seat that the so-called Moderate Republicans handed him two election cycles ago. That seat was in Republican hands for 46 years, even though it was held part of that time by the liberal Jan Meyers.
The liberal Republican candidates running for Governor have promised to raise taxes - even though their mentor, current liberal Governor Graves did not have the guts to do so when he won reelection. Governor Graves wanted to ingraciate himself with Bush when Bush was running for President but made the fatal mistake of making fun of conservative positions on abortion and school choice within earshot of Bush at a tony fundraiser. Graves must have believed that Bush wasn't really pro-life and wasn't really for school choice. Thankfully, conservatives won't have to stomach Graves after January.
The liberal clown running for Attorney General, David Adkins, voted to release criminals before their time to "relieve glut of inmates in Kansas prisons." Adkins also voted to give taxpayer funds to a liberal group headed up by his wife, Lisa. Surprisingly, conservative Phill Kline has been smeared by U. S. Sen. Pat Roberts' staff inferring that Kline had failed to pass an FBI background check to be appointed by the Bush administration. Kline was forced to withdraw his name for consideration after waiting 10 months with no end in sight. Kline was needing an income for his family and was told that "these things take however long they take."
Liberal Kansas Republicans have been heard stating that if Kansas elects a conservative governor, attorney general and U. S. Congressman, they'll "consider moving out of the state" - a la Streisand and Baldwin.
I was wondering why Bill Graves was selected by the Bush adminstration for a high ranking job and I think you just answered my question. If you remember, there was alot of talk about Graves being selected by Bush since he knew Graves as a fellow Republican governor and he would be leaving office soon. But somehow that job offer vanished into thin air.
Anyway, I really don't care about any candidates except that I hope David Adkins loses. He is the biggest RINO around. I can stand moderates, and even liberal Republicans, if they are fiscally responsible and tough on crime, but Adkins and his cronies are not even that. They are rich kids who believe that being a Republican means being anti-union and thrashing the servants. They are no better than some northeast Republicans who are Republicans only because being a democrat is "too working class".
Whats a "tony fundraiser"?
I think it's important we not put everyone in the same box. Even when the Wichita Eagle endorses the wrong guy, rarely do they not say a kind word about the other candidates anyway. We could live with newspaper people like that. It's the grossly unfair abuses of power as seen daily in the Kansas City Star that we need to target.
