PORTLAND, Maine Longtime Republican financier Robert Monks said Monday that he is supporting Democratic Senate candidate Chellie Pingree in her race against Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
Monks said he supports Pingree because he thinks the best chance for passing corporate reform laws is to have Democrats control Congress. Monks has run unsuccessfully for the Senate three times, most recently in 1996 when he lost in the Republican primary to Collins and another candidate.

Just what we need. Democrats to control Congress. Oh yes! Just what we need. Monks needs to be sent to Siberia.
when he lost in the Republican primary to Collins and another candidate.
He sounds BITTER!
Monks is perhaps best-known as a wealthy Cape Elizabeth resident from a wealthy New England family.
Poor Little RICH boy!
''Chellie has a long long list of Republican supporters, and we're proud to have a coalition of bipartisan support,'' Barron said.
OH REALLY!
This whole state is Democratic. Even the two TV channels run nothing but Pingree ads. I am sick to death of those commercials. Why the heck doesn Collins get something on TV. This whole election process in Maine stinks.
He wanted to know if I wanted to answer some questions re Baldacci and Pingree.
So I told him, "Sorry, I hate Democrats. I wouldn't vote for one if someone held a gun to my head."
His jaw actually dropped and he backed away, asking me if I was serious. I told him I was serious as a heart attack.
He quickly left and went to the house across the street, where the snarling dogs kind of dissuaded him from knocking on that door, too.
Life was good that day.
You're just pullin' my leg, huh?
Is Medusa really planning to come here for that?
If I can maneuver the work schedule, count me in.
No doubt it'll be scheduled for 2:00 PM on a Tuesday.
