as i am writing this i'm praying. i love how we are allowed to care for one another by our prayers. i would also ask for prayer for my son. he is attempting to obtain a better job. please add this to your prayers. leon

Carl and Carlina and family,
This is such a difficult time in your life. Know that I know what you are experiencing since my husband died from lung cancer.
It is a rugged road to walk, but the Lord has afforded me "knocks on the head", guidance, assistance (food and encouragement) when I needed it and a spiritual healing that only comes from our Savior, Jesus Christ.
I pray that Gonzo will copy off this thread for you, and that you will discover that these items are available to you also.
Some books that I found helpful were:
When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Rabbi Kirschner
On Death and Dying by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
and my favorite -- Without Thorns, It's Not a Rose by Father Jack Scott.
Of help to me (give yourself 9 months to a year to work through some grief) was a grief-recovery Beginning Experience weekend. There are probably some offered in your area. Check the source out.
