Watch and pray. The rescuers are optimistic that they will reach the cavity where the miners are located by midnight, perhaps as soon as 10pm et.

They just reported that several PA miners were caught in a similar situation thirty years ago AND WERE RESCUED ALIVE AFTER A WEEK IN THE HOLE.

I didn't know anything about the governor except that he succeeded Ridge so I've done a wee bit of research, in case any one else is interested ......

Birth Date: January 31, 1953
Family: married; three children
Spouse: Kathy
Party: Republican ... (as I suspected)
Elected: October 2001
Term Expires: January 2003

He has a Master's Degree in Administration .... after college, he entered the business world and advanced to executive positions at Merrill Lynch, McGraw Hill, and his own management consulting firm. He was first elected to public office in 1979 as Middletown Township Supervisor, and in 1987 he was elected Bucks County Commissioner. He was elected lieutenant governor in November 1994 and reelected in November 1998. He was sworn in as Pennsylvania's 44th governor on October 5, 2001, following Governor Tom Ridge's appointment by President George W. Bush to head the nation's Office of Homeland Security.

May not take as long as we think, one up, 9 to go!!!
Heard they have to take it slow with the cage so it won't start twisting,

"Oh this is so wonderful -- the first miner is out!!!"

First off, I'm thrilled for the miners and their families. A lot of prayers were just answered. But you know, the country really needed this. After all the horrible news about the little girls gone missing and killed, the stock market, and everything else. This is a big shot in the arm. The whole country is celebrating these men's rescue.

Given the 10 minute extraction time, I don't belive the bends are a problem.

I'm very happy to report that all three of the kittens can see color very well. They chased that thing until they were panting and momcat hissed at me ;) I even got a toad to chase it - guess he thought it was a firefly.

These are all feral cats BTW ... mom had her litter in my garage about a month ago, and none of the kittens are the same color (mom's apparently a wild sort). The little black one will come right up to you, but the other kittens arch their backs and spit just like mom does when a big mean human gets anywhere near them.

I don't think I've had a better Saturday night in a long time.
