Damned good point and worth consideration. Is it more abductions taking place? Or just more media coverage? Perhaps we are being groomed? But I dont think Digital Angel is the answer, ZERO TOLERANCE and Death to Pedophiles is the answer.
Anybody touches my daughter and you people will be reading about me in the news, I will go completely medieval on all pedophiles in my county , and I know where the bastards live. Our police department keeps the webpage updated on theeir locations and houses quite frequently.

I can't believe that it doesn't occur to parents to put locks/bolts/latches high up on doors where little ones can't reach and to use the locks.

All kidnapping cases should be covered in an effort to find the child quickly,...I think most child abductions have been covered adequately by stations local to the crime. But you're right, for some reason these crimes are starting to get national attention. Why?

Things are different today then they were 20, 30, 40 years ago, sure. Lots. And they are different today then they were 5 years ago - child abductions are down. Every single child abduction is a tragedy. There are plenty of things that you can point to that would support an argument for the decline of our society and the loss of morals and respect for life. The latest sensational, "manufactured" trend is not one of them. In fact, I would argue that attaching yourself to this story as a basis for support only cheapens your point and reduces your credibility.

Is this man with the baseball hat on backwards her father or the man that was staying at the house? Just curious.

Cops talking to a man who was staying in the house they were. This was the guy swimming in the river and disappeared at the same time as she did. How horrible. The only thing I can think of is the mother turned this guy down for something and he took her kid and killed her.

Thanks for the post. I think it is a good trend to give attention to these cases. The police have a much better chance of solving the cases if the public is made aware of the problem.
I'm all for putting the cases on the Free Republic forum.

This did not happen at the parents house...it happened at a neighbors that they were staying with.

I was working at an animal clinic when the
Home Again microchip became available for pets.
The veterinarian I worked for is a Christian and he and I both thought the same thing: "First, they'll mark the animals and then say, if you love your pet enough to microchip them, why wouldn't you do it for your child?"
I had a hunch that there would be a media frenzy over child abduction cases in order to facilitate the ease in which the microchipping process would be instituted over the general populace.
I'm willing to bet that we will see increased coverage on "alternative means to protect your child from abductions" on every major media station within the next two or three months, if not sooner.

Our society has been smoothly convinced in recent years that most abductions were commited by non-custodial parents and therefor we have let down our guard.
Networking can help
prayers can help
people on the streets can help
Of course there is media hype, but that is true with many, many topics in the news.
Car chases included.

Man who was staying at house vanished at same time as the girl. Came back like I said a few posts up soaking wet, said he was swimming in the river. Cops talking to him because they don't buy the just swimming story.

Well, if you're staying at a home that's not child-proofed, then you better keep an eagle eye on your child.

I would say expect a finding at the river sometime in the next few hrs.

I don't think the father expected his daughter to be kidnapped while he was making her breakfast...in his defense. This is an inside job.

Isn't it about time that we brought back public hangings for the convicted perps? I really don't believe that anything else is going to get the point across.

Damn.

Most child abductions have been from a relative or a custody battle between divorced parents. Snatching kids by strangers is rare but apparently becoming more common with the media frenzy.

Getting the word out quickly helped yesterday in Tampa. A 17 year old was abducted, all the local media was covering it and a guy sitting at a stoplight, listening to local radio, recognized the car with the perp and the girl inside, alerted authorities and they apprehended the car, saved the girl, and the perp shot himself.
Happy ending because the local media was saturating the airwaves with it.
As far as national coverage, I don't know if it serves a purpose.
