Poll: Linder Edging Barr
Reported By: Jon Shirek
Last Modified: 7/22/2002 5:57:13 PM
The first poll results in the Republican congressional race between Bob Barr and John Linder are in.
The poll shows Congressman John Linder edging ahead of Congressman Bob Barr in the Republican race for the new 7th District Congressional seat.
Who would you vote for if the election was held today?
- 41% John Linder
- 30% Bob Barr
- 29% Undecided
"It does suggest it is an uphill battle for Barr," said Matt Towery, chairman of InsiderAdvantage.
Readers can access the complete results of the poll, along with detailed analysis by Matt Towery at InsiderAdvantage.com.
The Republican incumbents are matched against each other as a result of Democratic-controlled redistricting. Linder represents more of the district than Barr, but Barr gained additional prominence for playing a role in President Clinton's impeachment.
The poll is accurate within 6 points.

Damn. Maybe Bob can pass legislation taking the issue off the ballot. Of course, if they can't vote....well, Bob?

My friend lives in this district. He still hasn't made up his mind. One day he leans Barr, the next he leans Linder. I don't think he'll make up his mind until he's marking the ballot.

It is Barr's fault for being too petty or too stubborn to move to the new district containing most of hi old district.
Barr fell into Democrat plans of pitting 2 Republicans against each other.
Were I not to miss him so, I would say that he deserves to lose his seat.

I live in the "new" District, and at least in Cherokee county, the Barr signs are outnumbering the Linder signs about 100-0.

I'm amazed Barr is doing as well as he is. In any district less heavily GOP than this one, he could put the district at risk if he won the nomination. But it isn't, so he won't, and despite his progress, his odds of winning remain low.

He's (Barr) a damn good man. Few on Capitol Hill speak as forcefully and frankly as Bob Barr. This won't just be Georgia's loss; it will be the country's loss as well. There are too few men like Bob Barr.

"I've got this DAMN sinking feeling that the pubbies are not going to do well in November... Why should they? It's the grassroots social conservatives who gave the GOP elites victory in 2000 - and all they gave us was promises of amnesty for illegals and trying to stick us with carpetbagger RINO Liddy Dole.

It is Barr's fault for being too petty or too stubborn to move to the new district containing most of hi old district. Agreed. I live in his old district, which has become the new 11th. Instead of moving up into Cherokee County to fall into the trap, Barr could have just as easily moved out to Douglasville (there's several extremely nice/expensive/fancy subdivisions out that way) or toward Villa Rica and grabbed the 11th easily.
Quiet as it's kept, I won't miss him once Linder beats him. He dug his own hole. And I'm pretty sure that one of the three GOP candidates in the 11th can beat Roger Kahn in the general election.

"There are too few men like Bob Barr." Yep...I don't know Linder from Adam, but I respect Bob barr as much as any Congressman out there today. I hope he can pull this out, but if he can't, I'd love to see him in a high profile position in the Department of Justice.

I think Barr not moving back to where most of his district was, is absolutely UNFORGIVEABLE. A man of his convictions would have tried to beat up a liberal Democrat, instead of a conservative Republican. He probably cost us a seat (and gave one to Gephardt), and played right into the hands of that Democratic gerrymander. I would vote for Linder, if I could.

Bob Barr is a pit bull in defense of the 2nd Amendment. Anybody know Linders stance and voting record if any?
To: jbind
I wonder if he still holds the same view that he did vis a vis drug policy that he did 4 years ago? Yep - Neal Boortz cleaned the floor with him in a live debate over medical marijuana at a high school a couple of months ago.
