White House Tailor Rates Presidential Personalities

Official tailor to the White House Georges de Paris, who has made suits for U.S. presidents going back to Lyndon Johnson, said Sunday that the nicest presidents he served over the years were Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.

His least favorite - Bill Clinton.

Of all the presidents he has spent hours measuring and fitting under the watchful eyes of Secret Service agents, the French clothier told the news service Agence France Presse that Reagan and Bush were the "friendliest and also the most elegant."

"Reagan spoke a lot. He, like George W., knew how to appreciate the quality of fabrics," de Paris explained. "He gave me jellybeans and was always afraid that I would prick him with my needles during the fitting."

But President Clinton, whom the media painted for eight years as a man of the people, didn't quite live up to his advance billing, de Paris said.

"The least pleasant of all was Bill Clinton," he complained.

"Clinton was very demanding, cold and always occupied," he told AFP. "He was unaware of me completely."

De Paris' ratings for other presidents?

Lyndon Johnson was "nice. He introduced me to his wife and his daughters."

The French tailor rated Richard Nixon as "cordial," adding, "He always asked for news of my family and whether I liked the United States."

Jimmy Carter "never said anything."

De Paris told AFP that Gerald Ford "teased me about my small size by asking me whether I played on an American football team."

Despite his positive rating for Bush 43, de Paris said Bush 41 "was not the most agreeable."

"But the least pleasant of all was Bill Clinton," he quickly added.

That's the thing about Reagan; you can watch that footage of him tearfully consoling the Challenger disaster families and not doubt his sincerity one bit. Then, contrast it to the utterly hollow productions that Bubba displayed.

What a delightful story about Reagan ..... though it doesn't surprise me a bit. Everything about the man just speaks of class and true caring and concern for his fellow man!

May God bless him! ... and Nancy!

It would be poetic justice for Bubba to have to share a jail cell with Janet Reno and a stack of porn magazines.

That, my dear sir, is rightly called HELL. And it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

"Can you imagine being his dry-cleaner?!"

Why did you have to say that? The imagery makes me want to vomit. Hope the dry-cleaner had all of his immunizations and washed up well after touching anything belonging to the filthy creep.

But the tailor does not tell us which president dressed right and which dressed left. LOL

I was thinking the same thing. If I was his tailor, I would have run a wire from his zipper to the nearest light socket.

Well, we know that, in Bubba's case, there wasn't enough there to make a difference.

He would "use" her in prison as he "used" her in the Justice Dept. The only question would be who would wear the bag over their head.

That's one of the nicest things I've read on Free Republic. We hear so many bad things (particularly from the press about Reagan) that this was a welcome change.

...but the important thing is that Bill Clinton cared about all the little people, for example the air travellers who were inconvenienced when he had an his expensive haircut aboard Air Force Once. He felt their pain.
